Anyone else doing a community portal?
I was wondering if anyone else around here is making a local community portal? This is a rather specialized type of site and I'm always interested in exchanging ideas with others. One of the biggest challanges I've found is it's hard to publicize the site on the web. Since it is only of interest to people in a small geographic area, most of the internet isn't interested. So it's not like I am likely to get Dugg or anything. I'm thinking my advertising will be more physical, with flyers up at local businesses.
Anyway, this isn't meant to be a specific question about advertising. Just looking for others doing the same thing to chat with.
Thanks,
Michelle

I have thought of doing something like that except I was planning to focus on the night-life in a particular area. The main problem that stands in my way is the amount of work that would need to be done, such as pictures and articles from several clubs each weekend. I would still like to do something along these lines but no solo!

Yeah, it is a ton of work. I wish I had a partner in this but none of my local friends are into computers so I've been going it alone. Nearly a year later and it's still not ready to be officially launched. It is so much more work than I ever imagined but it's fun, too, and it will get there. Slowly but surely.
