Hre are a few ideas off the top of my head. I am sure there are many more.

customer service - patients/family can find phone numbers, physicians, offices, etc.

answer frequently asked questions - have a list of the most commonly asked questions on the site. this may cut back on employee time answering the questions over and over.
(What time are visiting hours over?)

Good public relations.

Because their competition has one. ??

To provide medical education to the public.

Because, increasingly, people are expecting businesses to have a web site.

Hope that helps.
