I want to build an artist type portal with the following features:

Personal art gallery (each profile)
can put all profiles in a directory type listing

Articles and personal blogs

i have tried Drupal and Joomla but i dont like them. Why has no one made a really simple CMS.

Any advice or help appreciated.

Hey, maybe there's a market there you've discovered. Are you a programmer?...

Benf,

Both of those are really simple CMS Sad

A real CMS has much more here is an example of a real CMS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_WebSphere

What did you find about those that you could not use? Perhaps you could use something like Vanilla and use some plug-ins.

The problem with all these CMS systems is that they try to add every damn feature you can think of. By default there should be virtually nothing and for goodness sake, you have to spend half your life working out where each bit links in the customize the theme - you need to be an expert (which is where they make money i suppose) they do it on purpose im sure.
Which is why iam building a simple cms myself as a college project however its not in the form i can use. Maybe people here could test it when i finish.

webchat what market? Maybe you can give me an idea? PM me im always up for new projects.

Here an example to make myself clear:

Im currently using Drupal, i am using a theme and customizing it, it has 3 stylesheets for gods sake? It doesnt need that many and more to the point people are consistent with creating styles for the same class or id multiple times. include all the styles in one section?!

Have you checked cmsimple? I think is much easier for your needs, and the gallery area you can always have a gallery script...
