PHP the loser and Python the winner in popularity rankings
TIOBE compile a monthly programming index of the most popular languages (note: this does not necessarily mean 'best' or 'most code written'); at the start of this year they looked at how the rankings changed over all of 2010.
TIOBE found Python was the winner and PHP the loser in terms of popularity last year.
In my opinion, this is probably due to the rise of Python in Web development, in particular the popularity of Django.
Anyone have any thoughts, are you learning Python?

I started using Python + Django about a year ago. I wrote two applications with it (give one a try). I like Python, but I'm not too crazy about Django. I felt like I was spending half my time in the documentation. It's a big framework.

That's a pretty neat application, nice use of Javascript to speed things up (but not too intrusive).
Interesting to hear that about Django, as I've yet to delve into it. I guess the important question is: is it worth the learning curve, does it save you time in the long run?
I've also heard bad things about Zope being rather bloated and esoteric.

I haven't really had the time to dedicate to learning a new language at the moment. I've tinkered with it ever once in a while, but PHP serves my needs for now.
On a side note, Assembly seems to be making a comeback!

Assembler is well worth learning!
I've only done a tiny amount of assembly, luckily with a co-worker who was holding my hand (metaphorically), even that has greatly enriched my knowledge of how higher-level languages work.
Time is always the problem, I'm sure that's the issue for most of us.

PHP is gaining lots of popularity due to its open source technology, despite of python which is out dated and not more used, php seems to be the winner to me.
