If both are giving the same web hosting service, then why there is a major difference in pricing?
The price difference is because Linux operating systems for servers are free, and run mainly open source software that is also free.
Whereas Windows servers requires Microsoft products and software to run which "tend" not to be free.
Linux is argued to be a "better" all round server software option.
Can you please read the PM I sent you regarding self promotion within posts and threads around the forum.
I prefer Windows as it is more user-friendly to you, but then again Linux is better for some features. I'm not 100% sure on which is better. Maybe somebody else will know!
Linux doesn't require any software that is not free/open source.
It can if you have specific requirements, but for 95% of sites, blogs, forums etc using PHP, it is the better choice.
PHP is more readily used than .net, and although I believe both can be run on Linux and MS servers, there are still incompatibilities.
Linux for PHP and MS for .net in my opinion.
I know some people may well argue that PHP runs fine on MS servers, but what I see no point in doing this.
Chances are your using a blog built with PHP, and blogs generally have complex code. So running it on an MS server "could" cause issues with non-compatibility.
It's "likely" to be ok, but again, Linux is just better suited and importantly, cheaper and much more free software.

Why do people pay to use Windows?
Hard to tell. Snobbery? Reliance on the old adage "you get what you pay for"? I guess computers have always had maxims along the lines of "Nobody ever got fired for recommending IBM". Try telling the Corporate suits that your new server software is free and they will think there's something wrong with it.

Linux is an open source system and more cost-effective to operate and maintain than Windows. Linux also has a reputation for stability and speed.
Linux supports a wide range of software, applications, languages, and databases such as PHP, Perl, PostGre, MySQL, PostgreSQL and many others making it very scalable. On the downside, Linux is not fully compatible with some Microsoft technologies so if you are using Access, ASP, MS SQL, or VB development tools then Windows would be a better bet.
It depends on which language you used. As you know that PHP is platform independent and while ASP.NET is platform dependent. So you need Linux or windows for PHP or Windows for ASP.NET
It mainly depends on the applications you are going to host.
Assume that it will be productive to contact their support, tell them your specific needs.
Well, I have read this all of the stuff and would like to say you that according to me Linux is the best and the more thing is that Linux doesn’t crash if you accidentally pulled out your USB key/pen drive.

The vast majority of websites are hosted on Linux software with LAMP servers (Linux, Appache, MySQL, and PHP)
Only a comparatively small proportion of websites are hosted on windows windows software.
The reason: It's secure, well tested, easy to use with CPanel, and extremely robust. The fact that it's free is a consideration, but the main consideration is that it's quite simply better than any alternative. Linux servers beat windows servers hands down because, if something does go wrong, it's usually easy to put right.
Well, What I think Linux hosting will be better both financial and security case. Virus can't affect Linux hosting and affordable. How ever window will most chargeable no idea when ever virus may be attract
I prefer Linux. I perceive that Linux is more stable and secure and have not had any experiences that would lead to believe otherwise. That being said, I don't believe Windows is not an adequate platform.
There are 2 different point of views: on server-side and end-user-side.
At the server-side, Linux is more stable, cheap, and secure. Linux server using php for database, and almost all the people on the Internet use php rather than asp for their database server script.
At the end-user-side, at PC / laptop (whether using Windows or Linux or else) and/or mobile phone, the webmasters makes the difference.
For your consideration, you can compare the detailed hosting plans and its price. What the specification do you really need, and how much budget you will spend for it.
I always prefer Linux Hosting, but I have 2 more websites from window (too old and I don't want to change to Linux). Linux is more secure and cheap also that's way.

It is personal preference and dependent on the your knowledge. You will get people that say Windows is better and you will get people that say Linux is better. Truly, the best is subjective and is completely up to you.
Example, at work, I set up a server for my department. While I would have rather made it a Linux server as I know how to do more things with it, I made it a Windows server since I did not want to spend the time and headaches trying to get Samba to properly authenticate with the Corporate Active Directory (and the fact that I have never used Samba). I also installed IIS and MSSQL since they were the "recommended" corporate applications for Windows servers, but with the refresh I am currently doing on it, I have switched to Apache and MySQL because that is what I am more familiar with.

Which web hosting is good, Linux or windows based?

Hi,
Linux is more good and far more cheaper than windows. I recommend Linux to be your web host.

Linux is the best if you just want to host websites. A lot more secure than windows. Cheaper.

I always prefer Linux Hosting, but I have 2 more websites from window (too old and I don't want to change to Linux). Linux is more secure and cheap also that's way.

According to me both are the best to use. It depends that with type of website you have and with platform you use to create website. I prefer to use windows hosting because it is secured to use that provide protection against hackers. Windows hosting is good to use for application based websites .

It depends upon what kind of website you are having. Always better option is Linux hosting. Because, Windows hosting plans will not run WordPress.
Use windows only if you are going to use a CMS made on ASP.net.
