MikeA's webautorities has a bulk reseller type plan might wanna check it out, umm... but it is more like getting a few accounts at a discount per each. You mean subdirectory multiple domain hosting?

ala http://domain.com/billy is actually billy.com ???

If you don't want this type of multiple domain, ummm, well, I could help you out. I have too much space on the server and need to find some people looking for no frills hosting Smiling

What I mean is I can use domain.com and hihi.com and foofoo.com on one hosting account without paying extra fees for each domain.

Would they all be pointing to the same site?
E.g. all the domains would point to the index page on maindomain.com ? Or would they each have to have their own subdirectory?

Yeah, their own subdirectory on the account.

It seems like most hosts should be able to do this, though I'm not sure how many would without making you pay extra.
Of course you wouldn't get email/control panel with these additional domains, for that you'd probably have to setup a new account.

You might try using http://www.mydomain.com, plus a CGI script to forward the pages to their appropriate directory. Then, you could use virtually any host Smiling

I agree that you could probably just set up a free domain forwarding account at one of the registrars that offer it, then use a CGI script to do path-forwarding. It's the most flexible and you can change the redirects at any time.

A key thing is that when someone types http://www.foobar.com I don't want it to say http://www.domain.com/foobar/ in the adress bar. I want it to say http://www.foobar.com without cloaking the URL.

Well, I'm not sure of any other hosts that will offer this for free, included in the package. Most hosts will be able to do this for a small price, however. It basically involves parking the domains to the host's nameservers, and adding a new Name-based entry in the httpd.conf file.

Mydomain WOULD allow http://www.foobar.com, but you're right- the URL would be cloaked (e.g. in an "invisible frame"). They would offer a true domain w/o cloaking only if you had an IP to use.

Futurequest's domain alias costs a $25 one time fee. All emails would be overlayed. It works out great. You can have domain-to-domain or domain-to-subdirectory.

Prohosting has unlimited domain pointing for no extra charge, but I'm not sure if it's just domain-to-domain.

I’ve found domain pointers to usually range from $5-8 a month plus a setup fee. Domain Mirrors usually only carry a setup fee, or are free depending on the host.

I know CI Host has domain pointers for $5 a month. I’ve only used mirrors on other hosts...

not sure... but that's why i went dedicated as well, with 36+ domains needed housing paying a virtual host per domain charges would be too much...

http://www.mydomain.com or http://www.myinternet.com is great for free url masked domain redirection... which i used and still use for 4 or 5 domains.

http://www.wwsi.net $25 includes domain registration and you could probably set up the redirection all under that same fee. Don't ake my word for it though.

Hello all,

I presently have 12 registered domain names. I found it was easier and cheaper in the long run to have your own dedicated server to put all the domains on. I am using dialtoneinternet.net and I have been very happy with them. Granted, dedicated hosting is not cheap but consider the cost of hosting 12 domain names on different servers or paying additional costs for each domain.

I pay a flat 300.00 per month with a 50 gig per month max. Additional gigs can be ordered in 50 gig increments or you can just pay the over max charges per month. I also managed to get weekly backups included in this cost. It can cost more depending on the CPU speed, drive space, and memory. I find the 400 Mhz Pent II, 8 gigs, and 256 megs of memory is fine for my needs.

Dialtoneinternet has an admin interface which makes if very easy to add virtual domains, DNS, and email addresses. The only real consideration when going with a dedicated server is having a working knowledge of Unix operating systems.

All and all, I would highly recomend Dialtoneinternet dedicated servers to anyone wanting to run muliple domains on the same machine. BEST OF ALL......IT'S YOUR MACHINE.

One word of advice. My grandmother always told me not to put all my eggs in one basket, and since I make money with my online ventures I still keep an additional two domains on two seperate servers in case my server is down for any reason. At least I won't loose a lot of money because all my domains are down. Just for the record, my server has never went down in the 10 months I have had it.

Good luck with your online ventures,
Doug

Why besides Thinkhost? I'm not trying to start anything here, just wondering. They're a very good host and I might use them. Vlad has had his share of conflicts in these forums, but Thinkhost is still a good host.

Also may want to do a domain name search on the numerous sites that offer that...

If you're looking for a site that allows you to park your domain names and manage all of the DNS zones from the web http://www.infodns.com/ might be of interest. They offer what they call a WebDNS interdace that'll let you manage both primary and secondary zones on their servers for free.

They don't offer website hosting but it'd be worth signing up and managing your zones there just so it's easier to point them to ISPs.

I'm a bit confused as to why you tell people about the site in thrid person, when it is your domain? Or you really like them, and put it in your signature and profile?

No particular reason, that's just the way I wrote it at the time.

My apologies Smiling
