Westhost/CIHOST - Which to choose?
I have dealt with Chris of WestHost several times and have been impressed with his hosting services. CI Host has had many probems, though they might have all been resolved by now.

I'm looking for a new host for our record label and have pretty much narrowed it down to Westhost and CIHOST. Any comments, pro or con?
Thanks,

Leo,
CI HOST offers a great service. If you go with CI HOST or WestHost you are going to get great service, a fast connection and a lot of great features.
The big difference between the two companies is the amount of space they offer in their packages. CI HOST gives you a lot of space! 500MBs for about $18 a month. WestHost on the other hand offers you a more conservative amount of space but at half the price ($9 a month for 15MBs). Most sites are not going to use anywhere near those two amounts.
I suggest you look at how much space you are going to need and go from there.
Thanks

Wow, this seems to be a first. A host saying that the host they are competing against in the same thread is a good service as well. Very good, Chris. I'm impressed that you would list the good points of CI Host as well as your own.

Leo,
I monitor about ten hosting forums on the Web and CI Host is in every one of them for one reason or another. Each one seems to have those that like them and those that don't. I have never had first hand experience with them but you can go to http://www.hostsearch.com/showcomment.asp?Company=42 for a couple of reviews. Also go to http://www.scriptkeeper.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000151.html ... the bad stuff got so bad in this forum that the administrator had to censor the word CI Host and deleted all posts relating to them... I am surprised I was able to find the above. None of this is first hand information though and I have seen several good posts on them (can't find them however).
As for WestHost, I have heard some very good things about them. They didn't have any reviews at the above HostSearch site and I can't find many other posts on them. My recommendation, WestHost.
Just make sure you do some thorough checking on whichever host you go with. E-mail the host asking for a list of current clients, their e-mail address, and their Web Site address which will let you see the performance of the site and ask the owner first hand what the host is like. Now of course this list is supplied by the host so who knows how accurate it is but it is a good way to see how things are run. Good luck in your search!

Hi Leo. Hope you haven't signed up with CI Host yet. My one month with them was a disaster, and I strongly recommend you avoid them. As JP told you, they've had a lot of problems. Best wishes.

Leo,
Deb has a point, any chance of you telling us who you opted for and why? I'm just curious!
Thanks.

Webhosting.com is unbelievably bad! awful the worst - the worst host I ever tried in the 3 1/2 years I've used hosts, they make even Tri-Star Web, Hway and ValueWeb look good (and these companies truly suck suck suck!). Webhosting has scaled back apache, so that you have no freedom to do anything. It take weeks to get telnet enabled, and you have to use a secure telnet client. Their service sucks the people in tech support don't know s**t (edit: Please refrain from using abusive language as their are minors n these boards - thanks), for what they're offering they're really over priced.
