website hosting
Hi guys, I have a question. I am looking to host a personal website.I found one I am interested in but on their webpage it says I am allowed 4000mb/month of data transfering after that an additional $0.08/month per mb. What exactly do they mean?? When people come to my site and view my page is that considered exchanging data?? Or do they mean "me" personally uploading and working on my site etc??
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Wayne.......

generally it means, "When people come to my site and view my page is that considered exchanging data..."
if it means, "me personally uploading and working on my site etc..." USE A DIFFER HOST

When people view your site, that is using your transfer allotment. $0.08/MB seems a bit high, that would be $80/GB.

$80 wow!!! 1000mb= 1gb right? Anybody have any idea how much mb are used on average visiting a site?? My site is going to be a personal club featuring a message forum, with an average of about 150 people visiting daily?? Any idea of how many mb or gb could be used in a month with something like that??
Thanks
Wayne....

Your transfer consuption depends on your content. HTML doesn't take up much at all. It's when you start using lots of media files that you have to watch out.
My cousin owns/runs digitalart.org, a public digital art gallery. I rarely see fewer than 15 people browsing at a time; it's usually more like 25. He's now aproaching his 40GB/month limit.

It's 18/yr (1.50/month!) and they offer 50mb space plus unlimited bandwidth.

Your host doesn't look that bad but the whois is kind of weird. It's owned by an Egyptian. Are the servers based in the US? Not sure either why they would be running RedHat 7.1 since it is fairly new and hasn't really been that well debugged yet. Also if you register a domain with them, who owns the domain name? Is it you or them? Do they charge you a fee to release the domain name? Unlimited bandwidth is also a lie.

Well yes unlimited is not really unlimited. Of course there are limitations. I dont know know about the domain, I recommend you dont buy it from them. You should bring these questions to them, I'm just a subscriber sorry.

Hey Wayne, I might me able to hook you up in about a week with a hosting service that may be unbeatable. I'm partnering with a company and I will have excess web hosting service space. We may be only offering ColdFusion hosting and Plain Jane hosting, not sure yet as the details are being worked out.
Although the details are still being working out, you can expect terms such as these:
-$35 a month for full ColdFusion hosting
-NO ColdFusion tag limitation whatsoever
-NO Bandwidth restrictions
-With this plan you can expect to have a minimum of 1 Gigabyte of storage space, possibly more.
-NT Server
-$25 a month for basic web hosting.
-Same features as $35 dollar plan except no ColdFusion
If you're interested I'll send you the link as soon as one is available.
