Webdesigner Hosting ASP/PHP
I'm looking for a web host for my web design site and as a platform for a small number of sites to be developed on. Cost is a major issue at this point just behind reliability.
I'm a little confused with regard to windows/unix platforms and whether I need to ensure they support php and asp. I see it as probable that I'll need both languages in some form in the sites I create.
Any advice is appreciated!

ASP and PHP can run on Windows --
But ASP does not typically run on Unix/Linux without some special configuration
However you will probably want to run many PHP/MySQL apps on a Linux/Apache server because that is the environment used to develop them.
So I would recommend setting up dual accounts - one for Windows/ASP and the other for Linux/Apache/PHP/MySQL
I have been developing for several years and the number of PHP projects far outnumber ASP projects.
I can offer good rates for Linux/Apache/PHP/MySQL hosting starting at $4/mo - netsperience web hosting - all packages include a free domain for a year!

The OP said about the importance of the affordable price, so dual accounts may not be good idea..
Not unlike the waves...

You can get an economy account on GoDaddy, windows or linux, for a little over $4/month.
I can offer Linux hosting starting at $4/month including free domain, and a 30 day money-back guarantee.through a link
Nonprofits can apply for free web hosting with Grassroots.org - and I even signed up for a free (and ad-free) hosting account.
I use BlueHost for most of my hosting, they have good pipes, good features (one of the few shared hosts with SSH access, and you can install Subversion) - about $7/month

ASP is written only for Windows, it can be run on Linux but some changes must be done.

I suppose that it is better to get windows hosting than host modified ASP under linux platform, because the changes in microsoft applications often lead to the crashes and other issues. Let everything be as it was.
Do not click my links - this might be damage your PC.

Think it'll cause many problems.
