trick for finding a good web host

Here's a little tip...
Test their support to see what kind of web host you are dealing with. Do they offer a real, toll-free customer support line? If not, do they have 24/7 fast email support? Or do they offer a real-time chat interface of some sort? If not, I would consider another host -- you'll want fast and easy communication to fix your problems when they arise. Also, look for credible customer testimonials. They should be signed by a person with a contact, not just initials or first name. Also, look at how fast the site loads. Read the "about us" page to see who you are trusting with your web site. These tips have helped us in the past to find web hosts -- and it works very well. One last tip, if you host multiple sites try using DIFFERENT web hosting companies. That way, if one is down for maintenance by some rare chance, not all of your web properties will be inaccessible. Good luck!

It's good advice, but not always true. Take for example BurstNET. Now I like BurstNET, but many don't. Back about 5-6 months ago people LOVED them. Fast tech support. Hardly any downtime, etc.. But since then many claim their service has gone down the drain. That's what happens when a company grows too fast. I personally don't find anything wrong with them, but many do. They're a good example of how your theory doesn't work. But most of the time it is good advice...
