A thought.....
Hi all,
What are your thoughts on reselling as a side line business?
I have been thinking what sort of deal would webmasters be interested in so I thought I would ask.
Thanks in advance.

hmm... if you're talking about reselling domains, it all depends on the price. The name of the domain would really make the price go up.

The domain market is very tough. So is the hosting market. Mucho competition.
If you have good plans and decent prices you might be able to get a decent cashflow. But to get a good customer base takes time and effort. It's not something for someone with "when I have time to work on it" approach.

You can't make money hosting sites unless you host a lot of them. To me the ideal situation is to mostly just host the sites that you design. Charge them a monthly maintenance fee to keep their site updated. So instead of getting $6/mo for hosting, you get $25-50/mo for not that much more work. I have a guy that I charge $150/mo. I am supposed to give him 8 hrs a month but it is usually less than that, his choice not mine.

Thanks for the replies, our hosting offers resellers a great reseller package and what I was thinking is just what Mark had to say.
If web masters and or web designers offered hosting as part of their package they could build quite a substancial income and have access to more clients prospective clients through referrals.
What are your thoughts on this idea?
Thanks Again.

A web designer should either also offer the hosting capability. Resale or sales agent are two cost effective ways.
If they don't offer the service they should have a relationship with a host that they can direct thier customers to.
Either way, it's hard to be a web design and not have any connection to hosting.
