Hello.

Here's a question:

I've registered a domain two years ago with Network Solutions.
Now, it's time to renew it but i want to use a different registar...
So, what should i do?
I have to renew it until April, 23rd. Should i let it expire and then register it again with other domain registar?
Please advise me.

Thank you for your time,
Ricardo

I did the same thing, transferring from NSI, about a year ago. There is no need to wait until your domain expires. Just go somewhere like 000domains.com and transfer the domain to their service. It's much cheaper and a lot more flexible. Good luck!

In normal cases, the new Domain Registrar will do the neccessary transfer. I use http://www.000domains.com

To your question whether to let it expire and register again?
From my knowledge, presently there is no fix or time period when the expired domain will be put back to the market again for sale or registration.

As you have very limited time left before it expires and the transfer make take from 2 weeks to 1 month, it would be advisable to monitor whether the transfer has been completed before the expiry date.

In my opinion, it's safer to renew only one year with NSI first, then get a transfer to another Registrar instead of letting it expire where the said domain will be de-activated and it will be a problem to get it activated again.

Hope this helps.

Ditto. I had a domain with NSI that was up for renewal this May and transfered it to another registrar before then. Saved 45% too.

NSI has a time limit that you can't do a transfer with in a couple of days from expiry so you may want to initiate the transfer sooner than later.

Thank you for your quick feedback Smiling

Now, here's another question:
What's the best registar out there? (Cheap and reliable)

I see you've used 000domains.com.
Is this the best?

Thanks again,
Ricardo

Ive used NSI and 000domains, hands down I would choose 000domains any day. They are quick, easy and you handle everything yourself (setting up nameservers, adding nameservers..). I love to be able to log in and change that info whereas when I was with NSI (a long time ago so Im not sure if they have changed at all) there was a lengthy period time for any changes I wanted to make.

I haven't had any experience with any other registrars Smiling.

Ravi
