Spliting a Site across two servers
Hi
I have a website that I’m having a bit of trouble with, it’s installed on a really good server. However, the site has a number of flash files which are regularly downloaded and this is draining all my bandwidth. Now the cost for the hosting is growing as the bandwidth of the site increases purely because of these files.
I don’t want to go to cheaper hosting because I went through three hosting service to find this one and I don’t want to move all the backend and domain name again.
What I was thinking was maybe I could get another cheap hosting to just put these flash files on, maybe one of these unlimited bandwidth deals (not sure how fast they would be).
Can anyone see any problems with this idea? Is anyone else doing something like this? Does anyone suggest a really cheap reliable high bandwidth deal?

Molly,
Would you care to specify how much bandwidth we're talking here and your budget? And the server specifications you are currently on? It would help to understand the situation more clearly and give you the best suggestion possible.

okay, sure the pervious hosting I am using up I think 40 gig a month, 30 of which I believe to be downloading flash, persently I am paying $40 for that bandwidth but the site appoximately makes $40 a month.

Have you checked your log files to see where it is all going? people could be leeching or hotlinking to your files. Do you really need the flash?
To add your flash on aother server just use the full path http://doman.not/folder/filename.
There is also no such thing as unlimited bandwidth, if they advertise that stay away or read the fine print real carefully.

If you do this using two subdomains like
www .yourSite.com and
subdomain.yourSite.com
then it's pretty easy. All you have to do is to set up DNS in a certain way.
