PowerSurge.net vs Matrixcubed.net - Recommendations?

I was notified by my current webhost resellar that he is closing his large website accounts (aka, his CIHost accounts). I sent an e-mail to CIHost, giving them a chance to take over the account without charging a setup fee. It has now been 24 hours and NO RESPONSE! So... I will likely be moving on.

Since I have been thinking of moving the site to an NT host, I guess now is the time. So, based on what I have seen and researched, I am leaning toward either Matrixcubed (http://matrixcubed.net) or Powersurge (http://powersurge.net).

Both offer unlimited ASP support, ODBC databases, live IISA statistics, and SQL 7.0 support. Of course they both support cgi, and SSI's. Powersurge includes a mailing list, MatrixCubed includes 3.

Powersurge includes 700megs of server space and 10 gigs of traffic. In addition, they have a clear policy for accounts that go over 10 gigs. (you change to $7 per gig... very reasonable).

Matrixcubed includes 800 megs of space and 'unlimited bandwidth'. I have asked for a clarification on their definition of 'unlimited'... *grin*

So... who has experience with these guys? What are your thoughts?

I have been with a reseller who resold from powersurge. They were very fast most times, I did not notice any downtimes, and the only problems I had were with the email control panel not being ready at the time, which was cleared up quickly. I suggest them!

Matt,

I would suggest PowerSurge... Our servers are co-located with them (something we don't hide). Due to the fact that the area we live in is still in the "dinosaur ages," we barely even have Internet access. We had to find a location for our servers and PowerSurge had everything we could possibly ask for. Their tech has been nothing short of outstanding... They help us manage our servers (although we have our own full-time Systems Administrator). We have an almost identical setup to theirs - our servers are even sitting in the same cage as their own.

After doing some research... Matrixcubed is either co-located with them as we are or they are a reseller for them because their tracert is identical to ours.

Further, we had a "run-in" with them a while back... They copied every feature definition on our site for their own word for word... And they still have not changed them. I have talked with a couple other Webmasters that say they too have had problems similar to ours with them copying material in one way or another... I am in no way saying that they are a bad host but I am telling you the facts on what I know.

Let me know if you want more information on PowerSurge because they are an awsome company that I highly suggest!

JP,

Definitly go with PowerSurge! They have been awsome in helping us out when we have encountered problems. I have heard a lot of bad about CIhost.com and some bad about WebHosting.com ... I think both of these companies are really just to large to accomodate every client. PowerSurge is still one of the smaller hosts (but definitly not too small) and they have had a turn around time on EVERY one of my questions in 12 hours or less! They have even made a lot of fixes on our servers free of charge within 24 hours!

Anyway, just thought I would through that in... Oh, and I guess Matrixcubed is a reseller for them...

Guys,
I will shortly be moving from Communitech to another host for several reasons:
- I no longer use mots of the features that made me move with thme in the first place (ie: UBB, MLM etc.)
- I am fed up with poor/averergage tech. support.
- I want faster speed for my sites.

It seems that I have norrowed it to:
- WebHosting.com
- CIhost.com
- PowerSurge.net
- Matrixcubed.net

Any ideas as to where I should go?

Hi,
I would recommend to have your account hosted at powersurge.net rather than matrixcubed.net because matrixcubed.net is a reseller for powersurge. But you may get better support from matrixcubed.net.
Thank you.

I would stay away from CI host - they are who I am with now. A poor excuse for a resellar is closing down their relationship with CIHost so I contacted them, offering to have them take over the account. They would not have to change a single thing, just start billing me. I just requested that they drop their Setup fee since I am alerady there. NO RESPONSE. And that is after I spent 15 minutes on hold EACH time I tried to talk to someone in billing about it. They would say hold on... and then I would be put on IGNORE... never to come back.

In addition, I am now convinced that there a major problems with Matrixcubed.net. I was nosing around their site and came across their support forum... check out this url: http://cgi.matrixcubed.net/cgi-sys/Ultimate.cgi?action=threadlist&board=cgi&forum=Technical+Support&number=2&topic=000003-000000-062499-000001.msg&Browser=other&DaysPrune=20 Two sites within the Matrixcubed servers have reported major problems... one reported it 8 days ago... and if you look at their profiles, their URLs are listed. NEITHER IS ACCESSABLE. To me this is not a good sign. (I just found this info this morning).

I have made my decision and it is Powersurge.net. They offer the space I need (700meg offered, and since we are currently using close to 400, this would give us some breathing room). They also give up to 10 gig traffic allowance which is very close to where I am now. When we do go over that threshold, we will change over to a "Bandwidth Usage Based Account" but that is just $7 a gig ... very resonable.
