Hi.

Could anyone who has had experience with this company comment on them?

I am new to the hosting search and am currently with PCISD, who have been very good in answering my questions. Very helpful so far. However, as far as their features go, they do not provide a few that I would like (not essential ones, but useful ones), such as a (web) control panel, private mail server, thorough web manual, mailing lists, etc. I have been considering PowerSurge - their control panel looks good and their online support seems complete, but I do not know much else about them. The fact that they are a very large company also warns me off a bit.

A little about what I'm looking for in a host in addition to the stuff mentioned above - multiple ftp accounts & e-mails, subdomains and mailing lists a plus, around 50MB space. My site will not generate much traffic, either. All that for around $20-$25/month would be nice..

In all practicality, a helpful and reliable host is better than an unresponsive and unreliable one. Cost is still an issue, though.

Thanks.

I definitely would not go with powersurge... we were reselling for them for a while, and it was horrible- the tech support people were rude on more than one incident, and they refused to cooperate or find the solution to a problem on a few others. There was one particular time where they had screwed the account setup of one reseller account I had ordered up, and when I called them the person who answered the phone sounded drunk and was very rude. I later learned from another tech that the person I talked to was the tech admin, and that the administration had been out drinking and had messed around with some of the servers. There were little incidents also which made me very unpleased with them as a whole company. And, I know of at least 2 people who have had problems with their staff sort of similar to those I have had. So, I would strongly recommend staying away from powersurge.net.

brusselsprouts,

Hmm, now you made me hungry Wink

I have a few accounts with Powersurge, mainly because I need NT - ASP and SQL ability. I looked around and Powersurge had a really good price for all the stuff I needed.

While their Tech support hasn't been stellar they always respond fairly quickly.

My main complaint is server downtime. There have been at least 5 times in the last few months where the server wasn't accessible.

If you can put up with the downtime their prices for NT hosting are pretty good although the prices have just gone up I think.

I signed up for the beta testing on Communitech for their new ASP server package, this should be interesting Smiling

Later,

PJ

Hi,

I see everyone has something bad to say about PS.net. Being a customer of the company for jus over 2 months, I like there services, especially the tech support, most of the time I get a respone within minutes of emailing them (no its not the autoresponder). I dont know this and that about servers and host, I do know that powersurge has satisfied my needs and gone beyond that. No one company can accomodate everyones desires so there will always be some complaints.

Hello,

To date, I have used the services of 5 different providers to host my site.

Host #1:

Ezpublishing.com was the first Host I used and was fine for getting "my feet wet". Tech support, price and ability to leave when desired was very good.

Host #2:

FutureQuest.net being my second Host provider was very good with tech support, billing and plan options. At the time they were on T-1's and were experiencing growing pains. All money was refunded without any questions or problems.

Host #3 and #4 were Icom.com and TimeHost.net. STAY FAR AWAY from these guys unless very poor support and continued billings even after you leave (though they may not see it this way) are what you consider good. That is, if your lucky enough to actually get an account setup!

Host #5 is Powersurge.net whom I have been with since last March and are very happy with compared to all the others mentioned.

Support responds within minutes almost always 24 hours a day and server speed has been very good.

Recently they changed their Hosting plans but still honor my original agreement which is 50MB with 10gig of bandwidth per month for $15 a month.

My site currently uses anywhere from 6.5 to 9.5 gig a month and they have never complained nor moved the site on to a slower server or other poor tactics that some other providers have been known to practice.

Yes, there have been a few times where they had server related problems, but what Host doesn't?

Would I leave them? Only when bandwidth and expense becomes a real problem. I run a graphic intense "hobby" site which is not sponsored as of this time, thus, ran "out of pocket", so price is a major issue.

While this is my own experience with the mentioned Host providers, you or others may have different results.

Happy Holidays!
