You learn something new every day!

I just discovered that the TLD .tv does not actually stand for television. Read carefully through the Economy part of this article on Wikipedia:

Interesting info!

lol... prior to the introduction of .info, .biz etc all domains except for .com .org and .net were country specific. There's also .to (tonga) and .cc (cocos islands).

I think my favourite country specific domain is .co.ck Laughing out loud

Tim- even I thought the same about .tv until I read the article, it’s surprising and good that Tuvalu earned so much revenue on that TLD.

I've been working in the domain industry for 8 years now, and I'm pretty sure that it won't get much interest, aside from an initial flurry from domain speculators.

The reason for that is that there are still people out there that think that all websites are .com names - nothing else out there carries the same level of recognition in joe public's mind.

People just got used to some extensions and don't want to buy domains with the other ones. I think it's the question of a habit.

I think that it is cool to have the same domain name with different extensions.

When new TDL is created, not often people use it as iy needs and the content is another. That's why there is no wonder if TV is not for television. And even if this TLD was created as ccTLD, then if it was sold it can be used for TV content.
