OK, after reading a number of different threads in this forum, I have three votes:

1) fairhousing - he has been a member for quite some time and has a lot of posts under his belt. He offers a lot of good advice on hosting... I don't know what his hosting experiences are like.

2) Stefen Enn - he isn't around all the time, but he has made some great posts. I don't know if he currently has a Web Site but I know he has had a couple of different hosts.

3) extrmbob - he has also made some great posts. I am not sure about his hosting experiences either, but his knowledge is top notch.

Those are just three suggestions of people that I have found that do a great job at participating in threads and offering recommendations/advice.

None own hosting firms or are associated with hosting firms, other than being clients

Thinkhost being a moderator? Nothing personal, but that just gives me the chills

I agree with Patrick, but I don't think anyone here fits that description. But, as usual, I'm probably wrong.

Whatever happened to Curtis?

It seems rather unlikely that I'd be the choice, but I think its worth a shot. I've done a good job at our own LawnSite.com and our Global Reaction Support Forums, so why not help out here

I personally think it should be someone that doesn't own a hosting firm Since this forum really isn't for hosting firms to make posts, it should be moderated by a consumer since consumers are the ones that this forum is for.

I have no recommendations or votes for anyone. I do however have a fear about allowing thinkhost to moderate the forum given his stance on spam which isn't something this forum is going to be opened up to. Plus, he manages a hosting firm.

Personally, I don't think this forum needs much moderation, other than to take care of spam. Maybe to point out some of the things about hosts that come into question like the term "unlimited" and things that consumers should beware of.

Someone that is versed in the hosting field (that has been through a number of hosts might help because they usually know all the loops) would fit the job I think.

I agree with the idea of having a consumer as a moderator, that may be best.

As many have said before. Moderating is no ride in the park. I’ve been a moderator for numerous other forums, chat rooms, etc and have to agree. Just think about what being a moderator really entails before you jump in.

I also agree with Chad on at least one point. The moderator for this forum should be unbiased. Thus getting someone with NT and UNIX experience that does not own or work for a hosting company would be ideal. However it’s probably going to be hard to find someone with the expertise required who doesn’t have his head deep into system admin or hosting in one way or another.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Adam,

This forum doesn't require a working knowledge of either operating system. People aren't asking for that info, they are more or less just asking for information on a specific host. I think a moderator's job for this forum would be to monitor the spam and to point out non-technical things with a host. I honestly think that just about anyone could take care of it.

I am interested. I am all into hosting, and there is something about it that really keeps me interested into it. I am responsible, and take actions professionally, and quickly.

I dont have System Administrator knowledge, or do I own a hosting company. I do have the knowledge I think it takes to moderate a forum.

I am very active on the ScriptKeeper.com Forums, in the Web Hosts and ISP's Forum.

Best Regards,
Adam Lysne

I'd be highly interested in becoming a moderator for TWF. I know pretty much about Web hosts, so please consider me for the job! Thank you!

I'd definitely be willing to moderate this forum!

Let's see... I've been with several hosts in the past few years. I've used WindowsNT and UNIX hosts, and I'm familiar with much of what goes on behind the scenes.

I'm not affiliated with any hosting companies, so all my opinions are non-biased.

Is that enough?

No Junior Members are being considered for obvious reasons, sorry.

You will need as a moderator to be at the forums on a very regular basis to a/ answer questions b/ kill spam c/ move off topic posts to where they belong.

Experience needed for this forum is as follows.
a/ Popular member (ie not a trouble makre )
b/ clued up on hosting companies and some techincal aspects
c/ patient (you will see repetive posts here!)

Who is still interested?
Could anyone please email me privately me all comments regarding the 'nominees' in particular as these should not be aired on a public forum.
cheers,
JP

i think the old moderator, whoever it was did a nice job. i personally don't think an affiliation with a hosting company should be a disqualifier. as long as, the moderator is helpful, informed, and unbiased who cares what they're affiliated with.

Aside from his bias as a web host rep, Chad Simper has my vote. The bias however may not be what we need, and therefor it may be better to get someone who is an end-user.

OK, the popular choice does seem to be Stephen and I am more than happy with that decision.
So, Stephen is now on the (now well known) TWF moderator 1 month trial.

Good Luck!

PS: I am very sorry about all the other members who applied, it was certainly a hard choice to make.

fairhousing:

Thanks for your comment. When the forum was first starting, I did get involved, but it didn't seem like many people appreciated it. Over time, I just visited the forums less and less. I guess I found myself so busy with other things and I wasn't visiting the forums hardly at all. In my opinion, the forums don't need moderators, the admin can do all the spam work.

Well, I guess I'm retired, should have been more active.
