I don't know if this will be useful to you, but I do have two free hosting services. But in a sense I "earned" them. The space is provided by a couple of successful designers that I helped out with design problems they were having while getting established.
OTOH I used some good free services when I started out. But none of them lasted. It seems you can't maintain a service without an income to pay for it...

I completely agree. Not only is it hard for a host to continue to provide such a service it's impossible to expect much for free. Free hosting is certainly a great idea if you are new to hosting or are looking to host a personal site.
If you are looking to generate an income from your website I highly recommend paid hosting as there is many benefits such as support, more features, more reliability etc.

Yap, paying some money to a paid hosting will solve your problems and keep you away from headache. I also moved to shopaserver.com just for cheap and reliable hosting. And very happy with them.
I think using free hosting is not a good step if you are a pro blogger .Webhosting is so cheap that we can consider it as free .
Potential Harms of free hostings
Poor security
Server downtimes
Limit space and bandwidth and users frequently get "too many connection and timeout errors "
Limited Functionality

I agree with the previous post. using free hosting service you will have many headaches with your speed, network uptime, etc.
Besides, they will impose advertisements to your website.
I would suggest Paid hosting services.
I used once with 000webhost, they are quite good. But if you are yet to book domain name, you can also use limedomains, they give hosting free with domain
If you are really interested in web hosting services I will suggest you for paid services. Because in paid services you and can gets reliablty & security.
If you are a blogger then you can simple choose from so many freely available blogging sites like WordPress, Blogger, Tumbler, Squidoo etc etc. However, if you are looking for hosting space for your official website then you must have some kind of professional hosting and that you cannot have for free.

try 000webhosting.com it's very good
if you want a blog you can try blogger.com or wordpress.com they are free and very good , you can bay top level domain for your blog for about 10$
or you can search in google for free web hosting .
Do you think it is better to go on free webhosting than create and host your own? Their is lot but I know for only certain time it is free and they will charge you. Good luck to your hunt.
Actually i am hosting related services but i don't think there is any service provider that provide free services. And if anyone is offering such service that will be trustworthy.
It's better to start from low cost services with free bonuses for using their services, I mean marblehost company, for example.
Paying little, you get quality support.
Just remember - you get what you paid for.

I have never really found one that I liked. They seem to all have some sort of catch that you find out about later on when your site is too large for them to handle. I would rather just pay a small monthly fee in order to not have those kind of restrictions over my head all of the time.

earlier i also used to search for free hosting but its not worth having your website on free host because of several problems mentioned by above members. If you don't have budget then you may go for shared hosting. Shared hosting is cheap as compared to other hosting plans available.
I don't know the company name that provides free web hosting but i want to share a name (iwebhostalot.com) that provides web hosting services at very cheap prices just 3.95$ only.
It is really required to spend some amount of money On Hosting Business. I wonder it is not possible to Free hosting services. At the least each one require income from their online business.
Fair enough if you start on a free hosting account while your coding or getting the basics setup. You will one day need to upgrade even if its to shared hosting. On a free host you have no control, they can suspend your account for any reason and you usually get little resources.
Why risk all of your work continuing on a free host?

Free hosting is most of the times unreliable. Cheap plans are available nowadays for web hosting. Go for the paid ones instead of free hosting.

Most of the time, free is not really free. Some services offer free hosting with ads, some take forever for the activation process.
