Looking for new HOST

I am with vizaweb and I am looking to move hosts in the very near future. I am currently thinking about Hostgator and Dreamhost but want to hear feedback and additional suggestions. I understand that both of the 2 above had problems.

Anyway, I am looking for something with a package similar to hostgator's baby package or the next upgrade
1. Nice disk size
2. Nice but not excessive bandwidth
3. 24/7 support (phone and online chat)

The rest is pretty standard across most hosts. I am running a joomla site and will probably open some subdomains on the site as well.

Are hostgator and Dreamhost really horrible or are they good ones to go with? Any other suggestions?

Even the bad hosts have happy clients.
I used hostgator and would not recommend them, but am sure someone else will. Watch their forum but warned they do delete negative feedback even though they ask for true experiences.
Hostgator will suspend (remove) your site without warning if you get to many emails, if you go over your quota and if you have a busy site (lots of database queries).
I used a 3rd party monitering service for uptime, averaged about 92%, when I queried them they said that service was not reliable, although I choose that service from the list they provided.

Their baby croc plan is a basic one these days and many hosts offer that or more.

We have several hosts amongest us, look in peoples signatures and even up top in the sponsors box.

A lot of people say you get what you pay for, if you just want web hosting without the hand holding then really you can afford to pay less and still get what you want.

I use homestead. You can check it out at http://www.homestead.com I love it and have never had a problem with it. It offers various packages depending on what you are looking for. I have a lot of pictures on my site and a lot of pages. I have I believe the gold package-$19.99 per month but I think you get it a bit cheaper if you pay 1 year or 6 months in advance. If you like complete control of your website, like I do, homestead makes it easy. Anyway, just a suggestion you can check out. I forgot to mention that they give you a 30 day free trial just to see how you like it first.

Thanks for the replies. I was seriously considering hostgator, but your feedback Busy makes me question them. At this point I do not think my site will be HUGE. It is for a niche market, but as it grows and my marketing takes effect, my hits may increase.
I am running a joomla CMS system and there are lots of queries and database calls as well as pictures and such.
I read thier TOS and saw that they will suspend if you go over 25% cpu resources - I cannot imagine that happening but having your account killed because a small error would be harsh.

I will look around and see what else I can find. However, if you can suggest a few comparible ones to the Hatchling (cheapest plan), I would appreciate it.

I need basically the small plan + the ability to add on additional domains (this would be a nice feature).

If you use the Joomla make sure you enable the cacheing feature, that cuts down on the database load (Joomla isn't really a database hog but you should always minimise database calls anyway).

You may review the http://www.phphostingdeals.com/ offers.

I am hosting with them and so far I am satisfied with the service and if there is a problem the support guys are very helpful.

Ok this is going to sound like I am trying to drum up business for myself but ...

I have a reseller hosting service myslelf ... but if you want more than I have you can go to my Server company (They are holding the actual Hardware for me in their Datacenter) and take a look at what they offer. I have been using them to host my servers for a number of years and have had excellent service. I only say it because I tried multiple Data Center hosting companys and finally came across this one when they were an up and coming company.

Thanks for the info ladies and gents. I decided to give Host Gator a shot. So far I have been happy with them but will see how it goes the more traffic I start to get.

virtualwebtraffic.com ...try that. unlimited webhosting on cpanel for only 19.95 a year or will beat any competitors price.

Do a search in Google, Yahoo, MSN for best hosting companies. That might help.
Good luck,
