Linux vs FreeBSD
While choosing the OS, which factors do you take into consideration?
Linux or FreeBSD ... I don't know which one to stick to.
Globaltap.com is the company I plan to use a VPS, the price is the same but I am not sure which one to stick to.

I'm pretty much stuck with CentOS Linux because of cPanel (not like that's a bad thing), so I don't know what FreeBSD offers that Linux doesn't. It pretty much depends on what your control panel or other software needs.

It's entirely a matter of which one you're used to and prefer best. If you don't care, go with Linux as it's what software developers expect. Most howtos you'll find assume some form of Linux.
I believe FreeBSD has a better security record though. So if you have time, download and try both on a home server and see which you like best.

Linux performs well for most applications, Linux is well known for its reliability.Linux does include a very robust packet filtering firewall system and many intrusion detection tools.

Among the variety of OSs that globaltap.com offers I'd choose Linux for sure as they are much easier to use and many open sources are available being on this OS.

FreeBSD has a very good virtual memory manager.

Start from Linux OS, it's easy to use and there many open sources for it. In any case globaltap.com will help you to solve your problems if youo have any as they provide managed services on their VPS deals.

I vote linux, because never had enough experience with FreeBSD. Thus, do not follow my advice.

Linux would be my choice but you may use FreeBSD too and I think globaltap.com will be helpful for you in its running as their deals are managed.

If I were you, I would better use Linux instead of FreeBSD and deal with the company which know how to do its job qualified, for example, serverpoint.com as it has nice reputation for providing secured VPS hosting solutions at not very expensive price.

Thanks for all your replies, lads.
I will start from Linux services from Globaltap.com as it's easier to manage and there are many open sources for that.

I tend to prefer FreeBSD on servers and Linux on the desktop.
Linux has more drivers for more devices, and FreeBSD is very flexible as a server. But, really nowadays there is not much in it. If I was honest I do it to make sure I am in slightly different environments.
For Linux I tend to run Gentoo and Archlinux on systems, routers well I tend to go OpenBSD As you are asking you will want to go with what you are comfortable with, unless you fancy a bit more spice in your tech life. I do like Solaris as well
