How to host your Own Site
Hey,
I don't have neough money to get a real host so I thought it might be possible to hot my own. I have Apache 2.0.43 with MySQL PHP and Perl Installed. Unfortuanatly I have no clue how to go from here, I have never had a site with a something.com address, and I understand you need to register one of those.
Right now I live in Russia with a crapy 56k Modem so i'm not planning on hosting my site until I move back to holland (in a week) and there I will get cable with 2MB download speed. Is this enough?
What else do you really need to host your own site and do you have any tips on the matter?
this is my site now:
Programfreaks
Still under construction especially the banner.
Thanx

You should get an IP address when you get your cable connection.
When you purchase your domain name from a domain registrar make sure you choos one that does domain forwarding to an IP address at no extra cost.
Then you just set up the domain name to point to your ip address through the control panel from your registrar and it should work.
That connection should be fine for a small website.

Make sure your ISP allows web(HTTP) servers
Are you using Windows or Linux?
Linux is preferable when running Apache/PHP/MySQL

Thanx, it sounds alot easier then I thought. But I think I'm just going to buy a domain and get it hosted at Tripod, they got pretty cheap Offers!

I'd go somewhere other than Tripod!
Search around for a good host, I'm sure there are better ones

You could try this place host4students.com its hella cheap. I havent dealed with them but I've heard of a couple people on here that do. I'm going to get a account there in a week or two for myself.
