How are you lowering your web hosting costs?
Hi.
Does any one have any good ideas of how you can lower your web hosting costs? I've thought of the following ideas:
- Hosting your site with a host who allows you host more than one domain in an account.
- Making sure your host offers enough disk space and bandwidth you need. Don't want to pay excess.
- Becoming a reseller.
- Sharing a multiple domain account with a friend, college or family member.
- Finding a host who won't charge any further fees for specific software (e.g. media player, flash, WAP, etc...)
Feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

really lucked out with my current host i have no fees for any services mysql, frontpage, stuff like that i need set up
unmetered bandwith
unlimited pop accounts
subdomains
domains off of one ip
stuff like that
they sell extra space as needed at 6 bucks per 100 mb's
i see a lot of other hosts charge like 25 bucks setup for mysql
25 setup for this and that
which is bs to me.
resellers have never really worked for me as i dont feel you get enought space/transfer to offer a reasonable price/ ammount
really i think saving money is all in finding the right host
I do not use netscape nor care if my stuff works or doesnt in it.

Few hosts charge for FP, PHP, at least some DB etc. Streaming audio/video is a bandwidth hog so it's understandable to charge for that.
More importantly, IMO you need to first determine what your system needs are today and what they are likely to be tomorrow. It may sound good to go with a host that offers a hundred features on an account, but why bother if you don't need them? More over, many features make a server unstable or possibly a higher secureity risk. Even if you're not using them someone else on the server might do something that slows down or even crashes the machine and you get hurt too.
Lean and mean often beats fat and cheap.
