help me choose
ok i am moving to a new host, but i am not sure which one i want to move to, here are the choices, help me out.
virtual-cities.net
-i have heard only good stuff about them, they used to resell for communitech but they now have their own servers.
communitech.net
-i have also heard only good stuff about them
site5.com
-another choice
burst.net
-good service
I am looking for a host that can give me more than 300mb space and around 15gb bandwidth and unlimited use of the cgi-bin. I would also like this host to offer a reseller plan so that i can offer hosting to my design clients. Which one do you reccomend i go with? or do you have another suggestion?

I've tried communitech in the past, and found that everything was great except for their tech support, which was lacking. Some responses took over 24 hours, and some messages were never answered at all. No experience with virtual cities or site 5, although I hear site 5 is good. BurstNET is pretty good, they will be great when they get more tech support reps.. that is the only area that they need improvement in. However, they do seem to be improving now, as I haven't had a response in over 24 hours from the past messages I've sent.

Right communitech.net is great, only their tech support stinks probably because they're understaff or something.
Also, like I said they have a PCP (Personal Control Panel) where you could add FTP accounts, pop accounts, sub-domains, web site programs, and bunch off stuff for free. That's why I recommended Communitech..

I’d also suggest CommuniTech. I’ve had an account with them for about 10 months. So far I’ve never had to request technical support, and I use my account to the fullest extent. PCP is great, unlike most hosts that require you to email them to add functions (sub-domains, POPs, etc) CommuniTech provide almost realtime account management via PCP. I also have about 4 clients with them, each have been equally satisfied.

i'd say burst.net might be the best out of those choices.

Here's what I have to say:
1) VIRTUAL CITIES: never heard of them before, but they look fine from the outside. Sorry, that's all I can say.
2) COMMUNITECH: large web hosting company that's been around for a while. Never used them, but I guess they're ok. I do remember though, when CI Host was down, they spammed all their members about how they actually stay online.
3) SITE5: small web hosting company that has dedicated servers with BurstNET. I've heard that most of the time their customer support replies within the hour. But since they're servers arn't on site, they have to get BurstNET to repair them, etc...
4) BURSTNET: one of the best web hosting companies around, that has become very popular recently. I would choose them if I were you. The one thing that needs to be changed though is they need more customer reps. Right now it usually taken 24 hours for a reply. That's what I've heard.

I’ve only used BurstNet once. But I was disappointed to say the least. I use the most of my accounts and having to wait for a host to setup things like SQL is a pain. To make a long story short it took over a month to get a CGI module and mySQL setup correctly. I got a lot of “we’ll do it this evening” type premisses which were never carried out. I’ve been told that they’ve improved their tech support sense then though.
I don’t know much about Virtual Cities either. However I had a client with them a few months ago. They ended up moving to HostWay because of email problems with Virtual Cities (I did not have a say in the matter or am I totally sure of the problem).
I’d still suggest CommuniTech overall.

Correction on Site5. They have 3 dedicated servers. They are not in the BurstNET area of the VDI Noc. They are now moved out of the BurstNET area.
Site5, is who I use. They are good. Matt Lightner is awesome. I even like the look of there website. I say go with Site5. I am going to use them for a couple of other sites.

Actually, Justin, the servers for both BurstNET and Site 5 are located in the VDI.NET facility. BurstNET doesn't own it or have direct access to the servers unless they go to the VDI facility. However, unless I am mistaken Site 5 leases its servers directly from BurstNET for a cheaper price, because they must have some sort of deal with VDI. In any case, both companies should be able to admin the servers remotely.

Yes, you are correct. But, Site5 is no longer affiliated with BurstNET. They moved out about a week ago or sooner.

i would also like a host that allows more than 5 of the same script to be run at the same time as i would be installing UBB-like scripts.
i have heard of communitech not offering this.

BRIAN: Hmm- well I guess I learn new stuff every day Brian. Thanks for that info.
ADAM: Really? That's never happened to me. Just a few days ago (saturday) I got them to install three (3) perl modules, and one of them they had to go search for. I was suprised
DOUBLE OK: Since you're going to be running some pretty heavy duty CGI scripts, I would go for a dedicated server. 'Cause most likely one of the hosts you choose will kick you off for using too many system resources. In the long run I think you'd be much happier with a dedicated server.

i like virtual-cities.net because i know they have good customer support.
I will soon be moving onto a dedicated server(sept), probably with the same company that host me and i would like that transition to be as smooth as possible.
I talk often to the owner of virtual-cities.net, and every question i ask he answers and he calls me sir. It is a small company but it still has 300+ virtual hosting accounts which are active, and they are very well known for their customer support. the only thing is that they charge a little higher than CT or Burst, im getting
500mb space
15GB bandwidth for $45
But he will personally supervise the transition of my account from virtual to dedicated hosting!!!
What do you think?
Any host suggestions are welcome as long as the fit the criteria

i also think i like them alot, but i would like some input, if you think im wrong please tell me.
by the way, i have ruled out communitech since they are known for shutting down accounts that are used to their full potential.
