GXHosting.com
Have you had any personal experiences with this host?
I've been looking for a good host for a while and am steadily on my way to becoming mad!
I'm taking my time because I just don't want to get into the move from host to host game.
As far as needs:
<$15
100+ MB
6+ GB bandwith
SSI
SSL
CGI
SMTP server
Perl
PHP
I've found several that come close to these requirements but need real feedback. If support and network justifies it I could go up to 20/mo.
Please help if you can. I've perused a few hosting forums about GXhosting and am trying to get as accurate a picture as I can about this host.

You can’t realistically get 6GB bandwidth for under $20 a month. Well many hosts say they provide unlimited or some large amount of traffic their TOS or contract usually directly contradicts this. Hosts pay a few dollars per GB of traffic that goes through their network. The math is simple 6GB X $2 = $12 leaving less then $8 a month for support and other related services and costs. $2.00 per GB is also very low. Most dedicated server providers charge between $4 and $10.
I don’t have any experience with GX Host, but their site looks fairly professional. The first thing I noticed is that they do not list either PHP or mySQL on their server page (they do say PHP/mySQL ready on the package page, not sure what they mean by “ready”). They also say they have multiple T3’s but do not say anything about what backbones they are connected to.

Gxhosting.com is an alabanza host, that's where they keep their servers. From what I understand they support php and you have a mySQL database included in all packages.
What they do not offer is free Telnet. They will offer you secure telnet for $25 one time fee or for free if you have your own certificate.
My experience is that they are slow in replying to mails.

... and Alabanza is an excellent dedicated server place where many hosts have their servers located. Downtime is almost unheard of, as well as server problems in general. So the only things you have to worry about are a) tech support from GX Hosting, and b) billing from GX Hosting. So I'd send them a few e-mails and see how they reply.

I have had GX Hosting for the past six months and never had a problem then two weeks ago something went wrong and my page has been mostly down for two weeks. I have email them and contact tech support more times than I can count. Before this happened tech support always got back to me within hours when I had a questions, now I am lucky to get an answer within a week. I have no idea what the problems is but I am looking for a new host.

We had them as a featured host on our site. We had so many complaints filed about them we decided to remove them from the site.....

Sorry I've not heard anything about them. I' just read an interesting article about GX Hosting, It confirmed what many people we have spoken to suspected. The company was run by two kids. Thats the reason their customers have been only recently experiencing problems, the kids just went back to school! No one there to answer the emails

I have even talked to them on the phone and had no idea they were kids. I need to find a new host ASAP.

Your not alone, one of our hosts started to run up a large advertising debt with us, after chasing it for about three months we finally got to speak to his father! the host was 14 years old, and had over 400 clients! He told us it was getting to much for him to handle all his studying and hosting at the same time
True story, but i wont name names, theyre still in business, so be carefull.

I don't agree. Just because they are kids, doesn't mean they can't offer a good service. I'm not saying all kids provide good services, but you shouldn't cancel your account SOLEY on that fact.

It isn't just because they are kids, but that is a big part of it. My web page has been down for almost two weeks and my tech support emails and phone calls were going unanswered. I have a new web page and worked very hard to promote it so I am making money to pay for classes at the local adult computer training center. At 36-years-old I this web page is not a hobby for me and because my problem were not fixed and I had to get a new host and start over getting web page hits. I have to sit out a month of classes. I personal don't feel the kids should be allowed to run a business like this am truly wonder if it is even legal for them to run a business online without adult supervision. I have been emailing them now for a week saying I need my account close and have yet to receive a reply. I hate the though my credit card number is in the hand of two 16 year old children. I have a 17 year old son and I know how irresponsible a child of that age can be. Truly, would you trust your credit card number to a teenager? I can tell you I have been keeping records of all my email to them and will be checking my credit card statements and to make sure no more money is taken for my card. Also I got my first at home web page design job and the company who hired me web page is also down and it was not easy for me to explain to my new boss that the host I got him was run by teenagers. I have yet heard if I will still be working for them and I was counting on the money to be able to take more classes. I am 36 year old and only have a high school diploma and need this education so I can get a job besides waiting tables to help pay for my sons college so he can go further in life than I have. As you can see I have allot at stake here and reason to be upset.

Your right their age shouldn't be a factor in you deciding whether to stay with them or not. Unless age starts to effect the way they conduct their business. Particularly the level of support they can offer.

Hi,
I would suggest that you ditch them as fast as you can, TWF have some good Web Hosts who are also members of this Forum, just look at their signatures and you would be able to find them.
Best of luck..
