Grr - Host Deleting Files
Hi all,
Even while I'm comtemplating leaving my current host cause of the lack of enough monthly BW/DTA, I was in for a rude shock when I was checking my files and realized that all the search files for my planned search engine were gone!
The other day I spent hours uploading my files from my old Search Engine so that my SE tech could reset it up. But after I found out that I exceeded my DTA already, I decided to wait before setting up the SE. But now all those files are gone. No message as to why.
Now if I decide to move I have 2 very good reasons!
Very unhappy!

That's certainly terrible if they deleted them. You'll probably want to fire off a message to their support just to verify that they were the ones who deleted the files, as opposed to someone you might have given access to your FTP account. You mentioned in your other message that you'd have to wait until Monday/Tuesday to a response to your question... If that's true (that your host doesn't work the weekends) I would be more concerned about that than anything else- what if a server goes down, or you need to submit an urgent support ticket?
IMO, anything over 24 hours is not acceptable.

Dear Brian,
First they did get back to me after a few hours after I sent both support forms.
Turns out that the Search Engine files I uploaded were against their policy and yet that was the first thing I asked when I was emailing about joining them and I was told that they could support it, I guess not! (I knew it was them cause I hadn't given out my FTP info to my SE tech person yet cause I didn't want to set up the SE if I was going to move, but then they went ahead deleted them all).
I've already had a few ppl give me suggestions for new host cause I definitely can not stay here, it doesn't do what I need for my site.
One of the members of the update list for my site suggested http://www.ukfreehosts.com/ it looks VERY GOOD, but if anyone wants to check it out and give me their opinion, please do so, I don't want to be burned again.

Vegs,
My current host is not free, I definitely had to pay for it.
The URL I posted was for a host I'm thinking about joining, and I wanted opinions on it.

oh I must apologize for that, I didn't know that your current host is a paid host. Well mostly people who thinking of signing up with a free host comes from another free host
and for that ukfreehosts, it's very slow loading from here in U.S

Vegs,
No problem
I didn't have a problem loading ukfreehosts myself, though I don't have cable or DSL or the like (I wish!).
They do provide what I need, but I'm being very cautious this time!

SonjaMarie, that site is a lie. Don't believe me? E-mail their tech support and ask if you can host a MP3 server since they have "unlimited bandwidth". I guarantee they'll say you can't. So it means they technically don't provide what they offer.
http://www.unlimitedtransfer.com
There is no such a thing as unlimited bandwidth, e-mail addresses, disk space, etc. Not only would I not touch that site with a 10-foot stick because of their blatant lies, but because of poor grammar on their front page. "Email address's"? It should be "email addresses".
Furthermore, what kind of host puts ads on their site? It means they are not generating enough revenue from their own service. Any quality host or ecommerce site is ad-free since they make money from the services they offer.
If you want a quality, legit host, go with http://www.venturesonline.com . I guarantee you'll be satisfied.

Dear Mike,
I did check the terms last night and I did notice that unlimited wasn't unlimited per say.
But I don't have MP3's for ppl to download or similar bandwith "hogging" things to download, I just have a Gossmer Thread Search Engine I need for my site that apparantly violated my current hosts TOS.
I'll have to ask them about that before I make any decisions.

The name's Marc.
The fact that they post false specifications right on their homepages would signal me to look elsewhere immediatently. That, and the fact that I've never heard of them. But it's your choice, and your risk to go with them.

Oops sorry Marc (one of my best friends name is Marcus), I knew I saw the name but when I replied the sig with it was missing and I chose Mike.
I'm looking at a few sites and comparing them, so I can get all the info I need before deciding.
Thanks for you suggestions, it's a big help
