what do you guys think about the free .tk domains (eg http://renditiongame.tk is pointing to http://renditiongame.googlepages.com ) at the moment.

are there any catches or niggles i should know about? the only thing that worries me is that it says the domain will only remain active while it's still getting hits, but it doesnt define how it measures hits. are there any other (free!) alternatives i should consider?

also this only works for the main page of the site. a subpage of the site is eg http://renditiongame.googlepages.com/contact but the link http://renditiongame.tk/contact wont work. what can be done about this?

sorry for the beginner questions! thanks.

I'm sorry, I just don't understand why you wouldn't be able to shell out $8 or so for a real domain. These cheapies have other problems too - I didn't know about the traffic thing but they also aren't easily recognized by regular people (who only know about the major extensions). Which means that people will have difficulty remembering your URL.

For you, right now, keeping the googlepages address is probably a better idea rather than trying to get the .tk domain to redirect. It's just not worth it to try to make that redirect.

If you had a proper server there are ways that you could make it redirect like you want it to but I don't think it would be possible without server access.

I used to have one for a few weeks and it worked well, but that was whilst i was preparing a site and stuff like that.

I never had any problems but still there may be a catch.

I think you may as well just buy a domain from an affordable dealer.

Best Regards,
Mike
