I am a begginner at this although i do have my own domain and am capable of producing fairly simnple web sites for other people. For my new site that i have just completed i need a free decent host, preferably with no-ads, i dont need much space, just somewhere i can put my files to point my domain at.
any ideas, let me know.
cheers
hcl

my current site is at
http://www.angelfire.com/space/bsn

I'm also hoping to set up a kind of online portal for webmasters which i hope to include lots of features, with newsletters, lessons and that kind of thing, let mew know if ur interested.

I don't know much about the hosting thing but you might want to think more about starting a webmaster site. A lot of people are trying to do this, so the competition is tough, and it is a lot of work (there's a thread here in Concept, Layout, and Graphic Design where another member is talking about doing a similar thing). What you could do is have more of a blog style site, with just quick links, comments, news bits and other tidbits that may be helpful to others. You could also invite others to join you in a group blog.

hclear,

I'm sure there are at least a couple of places that offer free webspace without displaying banners on your website but I don't understand why you would want free hosting when you can get a fully featured hosting account for just a few dollars per month?

PS. I'm not implying in any way that you should signup with us, just trying to give you friendly advise on this matter.

Best of luck.

I don't know how good they are, but even a student can afford $24/year (or $7.2/3 months)!

I'm sorry, I must have misread your original post. You're looking for a mentor-type relationship then? Someone to help out? You might have problems finding an individual who's willing to do that, but if you hang out here at TWF I'm sure you'll get as good, if not better advice. It's always good to hear from more than one person.

As for free hosting, I've seen brinkster.com reccommended a lot on various forums so you might want to check that out. It is very difficult to find good free hosting, particularly if you don't want ads.

Are you going to be downloading files from your free site? Alot of free sites don't let you. I can help you out. Email me if you're still looking for a webhost.

Ya thanks for posting that, that is hella cheap. I'm gonna get me one of those packages up there and pay every 3 monthes. I want my own crap instead of using like geocities and stuff.
