dreamhost or ci host - does anyone have experience with those hosts?
hi everyone
i hope someone can help me out. i have to change my hosting company because my recent one (interspeed.net) sucks. half the time i can't log into my ftp account or i can't check my mails.
i'm considering about signing up either with dreamhost.com or with cihost.com. does anyone has some experience with one of them? please let me know. thanks a lot.

Plumps,
I have never heard a single bad comment about DreamHost. I don't actually have an account there (of course) but I do know several people with accounts there and they swear by them. A great place to research comments about hosts is at http://www.hostsearch.com. Below is a direct URL to comments about each of the two companies you are looking at:

CI Host: http://www.hostsearch.com/showcomment.asp?Company=42

DreamHost is amazing to say the least. One of my partner's just got an account there and not only is it blazzing fast but the features, dns cotnrol, control over your mx records and such is amazing for a virtual account. In addition, we sent a few tech emails out today, the reply time was 3-10 minutes, that's on a holiday..... DreamHost does live up to their name just read their policy so you don't get caught in an an Unlimited Bandwidth problem.
As for cihost, they over bill, under server, have a lot of morons at tech support and have done god knows how many aweful things to people.

thanks guys
you all helped me a lot and made my decision very clear. since i only heard negative things about cihost and just positive things about dreamhost, i'll sign up with dreamhost.
if you know somebody who thinks about signing up with interspeed.net, please tell them to do not. they really suck. their tech support (haha) never answers your mails. half the time you can't log in to your mailserver or your ftp-account. during the last few months the server had an uptime of about 65 or 70%... i once sent a mail to their tech support and after 4 days i finally got an automatic answer saying i have to wait a few more hours to get a real answer which i never received until this day...

I 'had' an account once with CI Host. It lasted 1 month and I got my money back using their 30 day return policy (although they did try to bill me again after I closed the account). Bottom line is their support staff sent me some nasty emails after I complained about their service. That was all it took for me to jump ship. Stay away from them if you intend on using support.

well i signed up with dreamhost.com and they're excellent. their support stuff is fantastic, they answered every question in less than 24 hours. the servers are fast, the prices are very good. i just can say that i'm very happy i signed up with them.
about ten days ago, they were attacked by some hackers and they did everything to solve that problem in 4-5 hours.
i would recommend to sign up with them, if you're looking for the perfect place for your sites.

Hiya guys,
I am the one Ted was refering to in his post. I was with CIHOST and moved To DreamHost from CIHOST. I paid for a full year in July with CI and from Julyuntil a few weeks ago they SHUT me off completely before I could ever even get anything completely installed saying my account was late! Late, yeah, ok, whatever, they messed up the logs, mySQL and everything else you can think of...Not once, not twice but three times and THEN, I still cant believe it, they said my account was fraudulent. HA. They also tried billing me 3 times over again. I went to my bank and told them to stop payment on the CC Card since I found out they had not ran the number yet but After I stopped payment they tried to put it through a dozen more times.
They also refused to talk to me saying I was involved in Fraud. Losers! I was the one that called in the payment as defunct.
So then I stumbled onto DH. I have over 60 domains spread out over many host in an effort to always have some of my sites up since they are all connected. Its hard to find a single good host let alone a few of them. I remember once upon a time Web2010 used to be good, then they started offering dialup and soured very quickly.
DreamHost is running Debian linux and their configs and control pannels are second to none. Trust me, Ive been at this game for a long time both on a civilian and military side and it takes alot to impress me. But in todays struggle to find a good host one tends to get very frustrated quickly. All hype and no performance. I have nothing to do with them other than I am a happy customer. No I am not even a reseller. I have my own servers and dedicated bandwidth for that stuff. I had some issues with them briefly and it was resolved rather quickly and was just a misunderstanding. I believe in calling the kettle Black and recognizing those that provide what they promise. Well, CI is Black and DH has produced what they promised.
