Domain Registration/Hosting Confusion

I am going to get myself a domain name and a host and there is a host I like the look of but their domain registrations, even fairly low at $14.95, are more expensive than other places. I figure I can get the name elsewhere for about half that cost. At Godaddy for example they cost around $8. I'm sure getting the name and host at one time is the convenient route to go and I probably will. But does getting a name from one source mean that you always re-register it with that source, or do you register it with whatever host you are using at the time? I mean I'd rather pay $8 instead of $15 for exactly the same thing if possible but I'm not sure if this is how it works. This is all new stuff to me.

You can transfer registrars whenever you want, as long as you are the admin/technical contact for the domain.

usually, you can transfer your domains between registrars after 60 days since the registration.

1. to host your sites, what you need to do is to set the name servers of the domain to be hosted as those provided by your hosting provider. (you should do this on the registrar's website; they should give you a username/password to manage your domain). Next time, when you want to change hosting provider, just change the name servers; that is all.

2. transfer is UNnecessary when you change hosting

3. if you can get cheaper domains, you can register it and host on any companies you want.
