I posted this on another message board but they were no help.

I was "hired" by my family to build a family reunion page and I'm getting paid for it. My mom said a .com website would be nice, but she doesnt really wanna pay for hosting. I've heard of doing this before, like you buy a domain name from some company and have it automatically route it to your page on say Geocities, or Tripod. I'm going to be doing it in HTML so I dont need no page builder or anything. I just wanna have it redirect it to a page that I have hosted on Geocities or something. Thanks

This certainly can be done with web-forwarding but the drawback is that using free space generally means advert banners and/or pop-ups! If you can live with those annoyances then it's fine. Proper web hosting doesn't have to be expensive if you don't want/need lots of extras.

Also, by getting a real hosting package you can give email accounts (i.e. [email protected]) to your family members.

I buy my domains that just require forwarding through 123reg.co.uk I don't know if they have a US counterpart, they don't charge for forwarding.

Almost all registrars offer free domain forwarding.
