Domain Name Cost

Can someone tell me why some companies (like regionalhost.com) can offer domain name registrations for as low as $12.00 and other companies (like networksolutions.com) which are huge companies and have been around since the start of the internet cost $34.99 a year for the same domain names. Is there something different or better with what you get for $34.99?

Greed?

Verisign/Network Solutions need to charge more because of their overhead and their mis-management (and they give up domains to strangers, too, they are really not very trustworthy in the least).

Domains are as cheap as $6/year, btw.

Partly because there are a lot of people that don't know any better. I have used NetSol in the past but not only are they expensive, it is a pain to get a domain moved or transfered or any other changes made. I use GoDaddy, which has always worked well for me.

I've heard Network Sol/Register.com try to position their services as "premium", but they offer nothing that the cheaper registrars don't. I think they can still charge so much just because their name recognition is so strong. I tell everyone I can that there is a choice, and to shop around, but people still go with them because they know the names.
