I have used godaddy.com for a couple of years now and have not found a cheaper place to register domain names. Their control panel is easy to use as well.

Recently I moved my web hosting away from godaddy to another company. It was so simple to chang my DNS servers... Just go into the control panel, unlock my domain, make the change, re-lock my domain and within a matter of hours my site was resolving to its new host server.

An alternative to godaddy is nameboy.com. I haven't used them, but I have surfed their site.

Usually $4.95 per year registrars are just that price for the first year, and then a standard $8.88+ for the next year. I think it's a marketing technique that makes you stay with them.

In all my experiences, http://www.namecheap.com is the best. They have many many features available for each domain you register. I find NameCheap to be my favorite, and I've dealt with a couple dozen of registrars in the past...

Since they will be paying $6 for the domin in the first place, the trick is to offer a loss leader and then charge full price the following year. Watch out for these as there is often a sting in the tail...

If you mean does the registrant actually appear as you then yes, godaddy are fine in that respect.

TBH any registrar that doesn't put you down as the registrant, e.g. streamline.net in the UK, should be avoided like the plague...
