buying a domain and setting up a website
Hello,
Please bear with me here as I am a complete novice but could really use some help.
I would like to set up a simple website which hopefully will get quite a bit of traffic. The actual page itself will not be complicated though.
So - I need to buy my domain - I was thinking of getting it from godaddy.com (which I found through domainsbyproxy.com) because I would like it to be anonymous so that people can't find out my name / location from it. Is this a bad idea at all?
I also need hosting. Apparently. When I came to set it up I didn't know it, but over the past hour or so, it has become rather obvious to me. (I told you I was a novice...) So, I need a good hosting company. I would like it to be cheap but I don't want to have problems with it. Nor do I want to have any banners or the like. I found names.co.uk recommended on here - would they be a good choice? Do they make you have a banner or similar? It's really important that there is no advertising on the site from the hosting company. I'm from the UK so something based there would be best if possible, but not absolutely necessary.
Look forward to some suggestions!
Thanks,
Jane

Yes, http://www.names.co.uk/ is a good hosting provider in the UK. We will be using them for hosing this site in the near future. You can get your domain name there as well which will make the whole process a lot easier. Their technical support will surely be able to help you out as well. It is a paid hosting plan so you won't have any banners or advertising of any kind.
And welcome to the Webamster Forums! I hope you'll stop by the Introductions forum when you get a chance
