Best Hosts

I have been going back and forth from free internet hosts. I think it

is about time for me to buy a host. What I need is a host that has

about 25 megs. a cgi-bin, good tranfer rate and speed and a good

price. I need a relatively cheap host, like around 9.95 a month or a

one price host.

Can anyone help me out. I want to look at all the hosts before i

commit to one.

HostRocket.com offers all that and more starting at $9.95/month. My site is hosted by them.

A few others for that price range and features:

Try freewebspace.net for more info. You aren't going to get all this for free. How do the paid hosts survive? People pay for paid hosting because it is far superior compared to unreliable, feature lacking, advertisement filled free hosts. There are no free lunches.

There are actually free hosts that offer all this, and more than one.
f2s.com offer cgi, php, mysql, the whole works for not a penny.

The down side is they are really bad. If your site and ftp stay working for more than 24 hours your'e very lucky.
What else, oh yes, the delete cgi scripts, umm... load time is painfulully slow...

etc.
Go for paid.

Inexpensive... I've heard good things about hostiva.com.

I am a reseller for Hostiva and they have some good prices for regular hosting clients. They presently are having some problems with their server provider regarding connection and all resellers/clients have received emails a few days back informing us how to transfer/setup our accounts to the new server. Presently all new accounts are on the new server and they are having some teething problems with the new control panel and should get things to normal very soon.

It's best to wait a while until they clear things up before signing up.

Quote: We are moving all of our customers from old data center to the new one. Please keep in mind that while we have planned this move to be more structured, reality of dealing with the previous data center made it impossible. Thus, this move had to become more of an emergency measure. Some features were in the process of being tested when we had to announce the move, so please bear with us if some things don't work as expeted. (i.e. some people can only add one database right now - we are looking to resolve this). In the near future please try to only contact us if you experience an absolutely critical problem and cannot proceed.

Resellers: while you can certainly move your own accounts to new server, we recommend that you do NOT move you clients just yet. We are not yet comfortabel with level of anonymity we can provide to you.

Thank you.
Hostiva Administration.

check out cedant.com

I have 4 sites hosted with them and they rock. Granted, tech support is available via e-mail 24/7 but their backend
and uptime and features for the price are incredible....

give em a shot

Trust me on this;
1. I heard a lot of complains about http://www.Hostiva.com in another forum. But frankly, I think they are the cheapest bastard out there beside http://www.hostonce.com (4.95/month unlimited space and bandwidth).
2. I am using http://www.cqhost.com and I am satisfied with their service. But the bandwidth is rather small and this troubles me.
3. My second and third best choice would be http://www.aletiahosting.com and http://www.dewahost.com. I only heard good things about these two host and they are cheaper than my current host.

If you have specific need for host, go to http://www.hostsearch.com and just find the one suits you best.

peace ...

Cheap is so very often just that - *cheap*.

So many hosts offer 'unlimited bandwidth' and xxxMB of disk space. But you would do well to look carefully at their ability to deliver.

For me, the honesty and integrity of a host is far more important than saving a few dollars, and running the risk of not getting what you expected. Don't get me wrong - there are good hosts, but equally there are many awful ones.

I repeat my recommendation for FutureQuest - futurequest.net . They are not the cheapest but, in my opinion, they are without doubt the most reliable. They run a forum for members (and visitors) where anything and everything is discussed - most importantly various aspects of the hosting service. Take a look, log in to the forum and ask questions. How many hosts do you know where you can do this? :q:

With hosting, as with anything else you buy - caveat emptor!

Hi all, I'm new here, and I just recently switched hosts. I have had a great experience with FutureQuest.net
It has a really great forum, just like here, where you can get 24/7 tech help on all kinds of issues. It is also like a little community scene, seems kinda like the same feel here. Just thought I would add me 2 cents.

I think it's a load of crap.

Unlimited bandwidth? Give me a break, they are blantantly lying to you upfront. If you can't trust them then, when can you trust them?

Right, Marc. That's pretty much what I was saying in my post above, although not quite as succinctly. Laughing out loud

Another point is drive space offered. Find out (if you can!) how many servers your potential host operates, and what is the size (capacity) of their hard drives. If they'll tell you how many client sites are hosted on each drive, then simple arithmetic will give you the average per site. All this pre-supposes that the host will part with any of the information.

I don't mean to harp on about FutureQuest, but they just upgraded all their hard drives, and have a stated policy of not 'over-selling' space. What they offer is what you get.

Ultimately, of course, the choice of host is up to the individual, but I would urge anyone looking for hosting to check out FutureQuest. Ask questions (as awkward as you like) and you'll get answers - usually within the hour! For them, 24/7 means exactly that.

Happy Hunting! Cheers!

Futurequest are being business-minded in their sensible approach to hosting, opposed to others who throw amounts around playing the numbers game. There are others cheaper than Futurequest that don't play the numbers game to the extent that we see lately although this can be contradictory when you look at Venturesonline and other similar established hosts that use this method yet do succeed.

It's the unknown hosts that go and lease a low-end dedicated server for a few hundred dollars and become the instant host that are coming out of nowhere and offering the same types of packages, high bandwidth and space, etc and driving prices down to unrealistic levels.

Cheap can be obtained if the host uses a realistic approach to how much bandwidth is covered in the sale price of their packages alone, considering that is where they will win or lose, apart from database allotment considerations for the server capacity.

Unfortunatly though, it's the perception of the customer that is driving the market still, looking for the cheap and least expensive hosting solution and this is where these budget hosts will always prey and succeed until word gets out that the cheap host isnt all it's saying it is.

i don't know of any cheap or moderately priced host that advertised unlimited bandwidth and continues to offer it for more than a year or two.

bottom line, unlimited bandwidth isn't part of a sustainable buisness plan for a sucessful hosting biz.

Lets start with good best host so far is xeran.com very few problems good fast tech support only thing is they say 24hr tech but its not thats just smoke

Now a host to stay a way from is webintellects.com
nothing but bad things to say cant even think of a good thing
i had 9 sites with them. that i designed for and all of a sudden one by one the perl was shut off because "THERE SERVER CPU COULDNT HANDLE THE CGI SCRIPTS"
Sites being erased with no back up

constant down time very rude and bad tech support

and the straw that broke the camels back was a $190.00 credit card charge to a client for exceeding her "unlimited bandwith usage"
and another one of "Changing another clients bill without telling or asking them from $18 a month to $79 a month because of the amount of dependency they used on the msql server.

Ok felt good to vent there =)

I do not use netscape nor care if my stuff works or doesnt in it.
