Best host + explanation of bandwidth
Hi,
I'm looking for a host, it has to be one that I can pay monthly. To be honest I don't have a clue what the difference is between a unix or an nt one, so ignore that. I need 50mb+ and cgi, no need for frontpage extensions.
I've just been looking at the hostrocket economy plan (350meg, 15gb transfer with cgi + php for 10 dollars a month).
Could anyone explain how many page views this would cater for?
My site will be a celebrities site, therefore running pictures + html.
Cheers.

Ah just realised hostrocket is 15 dollars a month if you pay monthly, i could do with one for less than that, around 5-10 dollars a month. Any suggestions (I live in the UK btw).
Thanks

First, it's going to be hard to find a host with 200+MB and 10+gig for $10 or less. Second, if you do I wonder about the service and reliability. Disk space and transfer are the two most expensive aspects of running a hosting company. You just can't expect to cover costs with limits that high and prices so low. And finally, while nice to have, do you really need 200+mb and 10+gig?
"Bandwidth" refers to the amount of info that can be transfered from your site to visitors (HTML, graphics, sound etc) per month. So if you have an account with "just" a 5 gig/month limit (5,000MB) that means you can transfer a 30k web page about 167,000 times per month. That's a lot!

I don't need 200mb (I never said I did ), around 50-100 will cover it. I'd like 10gig to unlimited bandwith, due to the fact that my site will be achieving around 250000 page views per month. A company in the UK, Easyspace, offer 50mb + unlimited bandwidth for £60 ($100), I'd like a deal like this, but it really is essential that I get it on a monthly basis.
Still, thanks for the bandwidth info.

I like HR and use them, they offer the most bang for your buck. But I'm not sure if things are different for you since you're in the U.K.

Maybe you could try prohosting.com they only cost 17.95 a month and you get 200mb space, cgi,ssi access(and maybe ssl aswell) and 15gb of bandwidth a month. Umm you get unlimited e-mail accounts and 24/7 technical support and there is no setup charges. There servers are fast aswell. you might wanna chek 'em out. well see ya later.
i know it costs more than hotrocket but you could always have a look.

In general, I'd be leary of a host that offers so much space and bandwidth (especially the bandwidth) along with many other "unlimiteds" at such a low price. Something isn't Kosher either in the business or how they're setting up thier servers.

Why dont we support the members of this forum.
Try out the hosts you see as banners. They are active members and could use the help.
You would get something. THEN REVIEW THEM! HAHAHA that would be great. A way to weed them out as they say.

Always remember the numbers game. Some hosts bank on the fact you wont use all of yours. If you find a plan that gives a lot of bandwidth for a low price ie 20 gigs for 10 dollars(thats a loss at even 1 dollar a gig which you wont see) ask around to others who use the service and a lot of bandwidth. I not trying to say that all hosts with high bandiwdth low cost is bad or that they are lieing to you by offering that. Just ask around and see what others say first. I had my share of bad hosts because of this.

No, that ocean hosting solution sucks.
Besides phenominal hosting(which can offer great bandwidth b/c it does not allow custom CGI) there is also tera-byte and liquid web, both which offer 20gb/MONTH and reasonable prices. I'm a reseller for both of them and I'm looking to use their services myself.

"Unlimited transfer" but when u reach there secret amount of 5-10 gigs they charge u up the arse
i had one company try to bill me 190 bucks in over transfer rates even tho my contract said unlimited and when i went and read there terms of service it stated like we provide unlimited transfer rates as long as you dont exceed 5 gig per month
