Hello,

I was wondering if you guys and "girls" can give me some opinions on what a great host is. What features do you expect? I realize great support is huge, but what else? Whats the ideal host? What would be a cool resell or affiliate program you guys would like? Let me know.
Our company is about to launch a hosting site and we are intrested in all feedback. We are currently working on a reselling program, so any opinions on that would be great. Also, what kind of features would you like to see in a customer control panel? What do you think would be ideal to do in there? Let me know. Thank you for your opinions if you give me any Smiling

You might want to search around a few forums (TWF, SitePoint, etc...) for this type of thread. There are a few out there, most started by ThinkHost...

I agree with Justin.

However, I never got to add my opinion...

NO setup fees.
Plus, it must have mod_perl. Smiling

Richard,

Rememeber that you get what you pay for, especially in the
hosting world. Sticking out tongue) I consider it perfectly fine for a host
to charge higher fees if they can live up to them via their
service.

It is true that you get what you pay for, however, this is an undeserved fee.

Everyone here has a website. It's just that not all are worth posting (Mine! Smiling).

Dear Richard,

I am sorry that you feel that it is an undeserved fee, however I am afraid that even so, it is a fee we as a web host have a right to charge. If a client chooses us, they choose us for our service, not because we're the least expensive firm around. The setup fees cover things such as software upgrades and bonuses for staff, things that we'd otherwise not be able to do otherwise, and things that I believe to be necessary for the good of our users. As a senior officer with a web hosting firm, I believe it is up to me to make such decisions on behalf of our clients, as that is exactly why they choose my firm and not someone else for hosting.

You may feel it is undeserved, and if so, I wish you good luck in choosing a web host that doesn't have such fees, however I am sure you'll find that you get what you pay for.

Good luck!

Sincerely,

Vladislav Davidzon Smiling

hmm thanks for all your opinions....It seems like everytime someone posts something like this, "Thinkhost" gets brought up! I would look at other forums about stuff like this, but just like other forums, they are about Thinkhost. Can i just get some honest opinions. What kind of reseller programs intrest you all? What do you want to see in a control panel that most host dont offer? Stuff like that would be very useful to me. Thanks

Adam,

If I were you, I'd focus on what you're best at -- ie design. Its up to you, but I've found through experience that the best thing is to concentrate on what you're best at.

Hey,

Well, its not just me Smiling I have a graphic artist working for me, a programmer, a network administrator, me the designer, and my older brother who is a very good business man.
Id like to branch out. We have enough design clients to get a server and offer them hosting. So we might as well try and offer others hosting as well.
Anyways, we are getting off the topic again. Any input?
