Advantagecom Networks(www.schmolie.com) - Any input?

I was looking at their Pro Package. Lot's of FTP/Telnet/Subdomains is about what I need. Sure it's $60, but I can also host my other domains on it for a cheap price. I tested their tech support, and they answered within 1 hour.
I was a bit put off by the site design myself, but I guess everyone can't be as good at it as me Smiling
I know of the limitations of the Cobalt servers, but I think it will be worth it..
I'm leaning towards joining them right now. But I'll keep looking for other hosts as well..

Hello to you!
I've been looking at Advantagecom Networks(www.schmolie.com) and am quite interested in what they offer. Does anyone have any experience, or know something about them?

I visited their site and personally can not see what you are impressed about. Their prices aren't that great, they use Cobolt RaQ servers, which are much cheaper to get than the standard servers... Also, they only give you a shared IP for $25/mo. In any event, I don't really know much about their actual service, but their pages don't look too good, their prices aren't great and they use Cobolt RaQ servers, which personally leaves me with a bad impression.

They offer unlimited bandwidth. You've probably heard this before, but unlimited bandwidth is essentially a sign to move right on to the next host. If you haven't heard this, I can give you all the reasons, but basically just avoid hosts that claim unlimited bandwidth.

Ok, please see the post about posting your referral URL's. If you are going to post a link to virtualis link to virtualis.com and NOT to your referral URL. If we allowed this these forums would practically lose value, so I ask that you do not do this again. Also a name such as Virtualis suggests that you are actually affiliated with the company, such as an actual employee, etc. I know this is not true because you posted your referral URL, but I still find it to be misleading. Curtis- when you see this thread please delete the above post or shorten the URL to virtualis.com.

I must agree with Brian... Even though we both know you aren't actually affiliated with them, you talk as if you are... True, you are a sales rep. or whatever they call you guys but you need to refrain from further posts like it. In any post referring to Virtualis, please do not enter your sales rep. URL. Everyone and their dog now has one and the boards would become cluttered if this happened. When referring to Virtualis, only use http://www.virtualis.com. I know it is your job as a sales rep. to get sales, but this is considered spamming and it will not be tolerated on TWF. I am going to leave this post up for now so that those following this post know what my post is about... Since Curtis is the moderator, I will let him make the choice to delete the post, if needed.

NOTE: This post is made for/in reference to Virtualis - the TWF user.

I know that there's no such thing as unlimited bandwidth, so I submitted my server stats, and they said they could handle the load.

Does anyone know of another host that offers several FTP accounts, preferably with a few subdomains?

I know we do offer the FTP accounts, but not the subdomains, so I will say take a look at www.pcisd.com.

Brian,

You just beat me to it.

Virtualis:

Please do not post any message advertising your business. You can use the sig file for advertisement when you post a message to help someone, that is what it is for.

Chad & Brian:

Sorry, I saw that and wasn't sure on what to do. Next time I see something like this, the post will be deleted and if it gets out of hand, I will close the discussion.

Thanks for your help and I hope this forum is very helpful.

PS: Please keep this discussion about www.schmolie.com and not anything else. This is what he asked about, not any other company or provider.

Wink

Sincerely,
Curtis Stevens

Malu, I'm hosted by GSP http://www.gsp.com, and I'm very happy with them. As for Virtualis / Virtualisys, I tried them and left just a few months ago. While their tech support is very fast if all you need is information, if you need a change made to your account at the server level it takes much too long for them to get back to you and get the work done.

I think futurequest.net does.

As to there being no such thing as unlimited bandwidth: true. Which also means that if hosts advertise unlimited bandwidth & hits, they are deliberately misleading you. Many say "unlimited bandwidth (our highest-traffic sites need to use a different plan" which is misleading, or even "unlimited bandwidth (up to 8 GB)" which is not just misleading, it contradicts itself. But at least these companies are just being kind of dishonest; if your traffic does get high, they'll just make you switch to a high-volume more expensive plan. Hosts which just say "unlimited bandwidth on all accounts" will generally either restrict your data transfer (i.e. you can have as much bandwidth as you want, but can never transfer more than 128 kb/sec) or just terminate your account.
