XHTML Layout - Browser testing please :)
OK I've finally taken the plunge and decided to make my next site XHTML strict instead of transitional.
Now I know the layout isn't exactly original and is a little plain at the moment, but I would appreciate feedback on different resolutions and browsers to make sure it works in as many as possible...

Tested so far in IE, FF and Opera on XP Pro. If it looks odd, can you let me know the browser, OS and resolution please?
Many thanks...

Howdy
You need to set a background colour
In IE6 at 800x600 the left nav has a chunk missing just before the long black image (which I guess will be an ad). If I jump up and down the page using the mouse wheel the gap will colour blue but there is still left with a big hole - about 2 inchs where as opera 8.51 and ff 1.5 are both good.
The font is also smaller in IE with a very small horziontal scroll bar at 800x600 (other browsers dont have it).
In IE the related links are clickable on the whole length but the section link is only clickable on the text, ff and opera is full length.
The global links (across top) and footer links look like they need to be centered.
nice clean layout

I assume you mean for the body? If so, done...
Bugger. That gap wasn't there before, where's that come from??
Yep I noticed that as well and pout it down to how the browsers interpret links. I suppose I could get round it by applying the link to the
I've added the resources directory front end now as well, still ok?

Hi openmind,
I had a look at your site on my Mac (OS X 10.4.4) on a 1024x768 display in the latest versions of Opera, Safari and Firefox, the site seemed to work fine, could see nothing that looked broken or in the wrong place.
Hope this is helpful.

Slight problem in Opera now, ok maybe not, in opera and ff the tall black banner ad is hard on the right border (side blue one) but IE it is in the middle, everything else ok.
In IE however, the main content is now over lapping the side navigation. Using the title bar (top blue one in browser) as reference, the side navigation ends about under 'c' of resources (ff is under 'o') but the main content is ending under 'o' ('e' in ff).
and the gap still there.
Add this to your file (not your css file)
#sectionLinks a {
height: 1em;
float: left;
clear: both;
width: 100%;
}
#sectionLinks a {height: 1em;}
that will allow the whole div to be clickable in IE.
Not sure on the gap (hate fault finding in CSS), try take out the font size or end teh relatedLinks links div before starting the advert one

OK I think I've fixed the gap and overlap issue by fixing the width of the left nav and setting a margin-left on the main content.
Looking better now Busy?
