Hi,
I'm searching for icons for my page.

But the should look professional ..

I found some on iconpharm.com ...woooow very very expensive ..
also found on http://www.iconexperience.com/index.php but not exactly what I need, but close.

Can anybody give me a link from where I can get good quality icons like above.

Thanks a lot

Jack

P.S.: Does somebody know where I can get (buy) Page Banner Graphic like on top of this page(I love it..fits to all resolutions)??? http://www.falkmeier.com/

Yeah me too.........I just suck at pixel graphics, just not happy with anything I produce myself. Sad

I've spent a lot of time looking for iconic images that I could use for navigational elements. I also ran across some that were whopping expensive. (And yes I know why since it's such a PITA to work pixel by pixel)

I'm not trying to be obtuse (I'm just naturally good at it!) but icons for what?

Like home, email, print, top, that sort of thing? Or icons like bigger contact, services, et cetera?

Or more than that? If I know more, I might be able to provide links or ideas.

The larger ones:

Home - Contact - Paper-y/Newsy kind of looking thing

I ran across one site where the guy was selling a disc, and the work was excellent, but something like 360.00!

I have Webdings, and Wingdings 1,2+3 and Digbats, and Photoshop shapes, and additional Photoshop shapes I purchased.....but damn I'm just not good at it!

If you're interested in photo-realistic work, you could use something like istockphoto.com images and turn them into icons. There are a number of really good tutorials out there for making icons for OSX and XP that go over some of the basics for making icons. Generally you're looking for clarity -- a unified idea.

For instance -- email stamp or newspaper

If you can't do pixel work, vector (Flash, Illustrator, Draw) may be easier? Or hiring someone to do the work custom, these aren't very complex to make, but would be easily customized?

Yeah! I suppose I could abandon Photoshop and try my vector program. It's a cheapy, Serif Draw Plus 7, but it would allow me to work bigger and then resize.

If it works, that's the important part!

When working on vector icons it's really really important to resize regularly and see what detail is lost or out of proportion. I tend to work at 400% and then pop down to 100% to view, rather than making it larger first then shrinking it. I get a better result that way (though if you're making everything into objects, it won't matter, it's when there are effects applied that it can get dicey).

I've seen this question a few times, perhaps there is a market at the moment.

Would you like to identify the main themes?

i.e. home, contact, email, new window, services, ??? What are we talking here for an icon set that would meet all the needs?

I'm working on finishing my *ahem* 'new' site. I've got like four different layouts and I'm thinking something iconic for up top so 1) Contact will be clearly visible and 2) Home - About - News can be omitted from the main text navbar.

This was a quickie unsliced for layout purposes.

lol, what's wrong with those? The only thing that stands out is that the house is quite a lot bigger than the others. Otherwise they are very clear?

So that's the key elements of any site, then?

What else could someone use? I know there used to be a lot of dingbats and icons like this ages ago but they were usually quite huge and highly "modified"...

http://www.stockicons.com/ may be of help, but I think they are mostly for computers... ? Oh, no, they can be used for anything. Nice looking bits! Smiling

Yes it was the Icon Experience link above that I had found, I was looking at the largest package there, the one that includes all of the smaller packages.

They are 'okay', but I want them to pop more, when trying to paint them I end up getting crosseyed! I will try DrawPlus though I might be able to do something I'll be happier with in there.
