what is best site method for
Hello all,
This is probs simple to most of u, but I am wanting to build a site with product pictures listed on the page each with brief product text descriptions next to them with either that text or pic to link to a new page with further info about that product.
The product images will frequently change and so presume putting them in a database is the way to go to avoid constantly re-typing html.
No online sales, so just an email for further enquiries.
Am currently looking for the best web host for this but without knowing site design I cannot choose between linux or win server for php/asp etc.
asp looks more complicated to learn but i really have no idea.
Know i am at starting level but want to set out in the right direction, rather than learning something and finding out after weeks that it doesnt do what I want.
Cheers in advance
Greg

You could always use a CMS or blog engine written in PHP, so that its easy to post pics on the front while creating other pages that are actually explanations of the product linked from the main page...

You say 'without knowing site design'....
Does this mean you don't know html? You'll need to know that if you are going to delve into backend programming.

A CMS is only costly if you pay for it. There are plenty of simple CMS's that would easily suit your basic needs.

Mambo or Joomla, A bit hard but works...
Wordpress, can be modified to anyway you like, theres a bunch of others out there like phpnuke, etc. you could check and search out what you need at hotscripts.com
