Web look & feel with map as front page interface anyone??
Dear all,
Hye! I would like to ask it is my friend over here ever found any interactive web site with map on front page? Something look cool+brilliant+smart with a new style n look etc. But not something look alike Google Map or Yahoo! Map or other map web site. This consider map as interactive interface which this web site maybe suitable for tourism or something like that. For example as mockup here:
So maybe on the map on certain area if we rollover got popup menu or something interactive etc.
So if my friends here found something look alike this web interface, would you give URL where i can visit it.
Thanxs

This would be an interesting idea for a website. You should be able to accomplish this with an image map.
You can learn a little about image maps Here at w3schools.
You would need to use the polygon for the shape tab and you would need to specify by pixels where the outline is. Your map would not need to be exact, just a rough outline of the countries.

I think this is a great idea. I saw a site the other on a list of the top website designs...if I can find the link again I'll post it here.
It wasn't a map though, it was an overhead view of a new apartment complex or maybe it was a hotel resort. And you could click on certain areas, like the pool or the parking lot, you could find some description of it.
I would personally like to see more interactive maps for the right kind of websites (that have some geographical or even conceptual component).

Google Charts has a map type that is different from Google maps
it could be combined with the image map discussed by cmoyer

That google map thing is neat, however it will not allow a map larger than 440 x 220 pixels. Using it in a header would work well.

The output of Google Charts is a PNG image - so you can resize it, however it could get pixellated if you go too large

Great idea - people love maps .
For example, I have a site called CaribbeanLuxuryResort .com
It would be so cool to show a map of each island with hyperlinks to each hotel review.
