unlimited bandwidth, 650 meg of space...

I've started a new project that is a little different for me - a resource site that will be packaged and sold on CD. It is an odd feeling to be totally unfettered by the usual constraints of disk space and load times. Unfortunately, the only real limitation here is my client's budget Sad

Assuming that the sky was the limit, what would you do differently if designing a site for CD?

Oooh, interesting question. This is difficult for me because I'm one of those people who is constantly thinking about download speeds. I'm always trying to shave off a few seconds here, a few more there. I always design my sites to minimize download speeds.

So, hmmmm... I'd probably use a lot of flash and probably many more graphics than I would otherwise. It really depends on what your site is about - you don't say what kind of a resource site this will be, but I'm guessing that it'll be largely text based? YOu could liven it up with a lot of graphic illustrations and things like that maybe.

No shortage of material, just money.. and time. There is limitless material available, text, graphics, powerpoint, PDF - the topic is the environmental impacts, practices and policies of the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

I am sorely tempted to throw profit to the wind on this one and go all out just to have it as a protfolio piece. I have no Flash background but grabbed the 30 day trial of Flash5 yesterday (after uninstalling my expired/unused Flash3 and Flash4 demos Smiling )

I am starting to get over some of the initial bumps in the learning curve. In other words - I can now make a little Flash site, it just looks like crap! If I can get a handle on things I may end up going that route - at least partially.

You could try to do something with a voiceover explaining the material - that would be a good way to cut down on the amount of reading.

I suppose it was time to fill in my profile anyway. Just a simple Canuck with global reach Smiling
