I am look to make software to make .gif backgrounds transparent. Guess I just didn't make myself clean.

Yeh Jskworks
Paint Shop Pro is your best bet. As Dass said, it is not freeware but you can use it for quite a while before it expires.

Have fun with it, version 5.1 has a great animator too.

I have it and am looking for a simple program that just makes background transparent and that is it.
