Transparent background trouble
I think I must have confused the heck out of everyone with my last post judging by all the views and no replies
Here is a more simple question. When I create a graphic with a transparent background (using Fireworks atm), the background is certainly transparent the but edges of the graphic are terrible. It looks fine in fireworks but when I insert it in DW the edges are rough with bits of white. I anti-aliased it but it still looks terrible. This only happens when I use a transparent background, if I use a solid background it's hunky dory.
How can I make it good?

Well it depends on how exactly you are building it. Do you have a sample of the image you are having trouble with?

if your transparent image is saved as gif it jaggs curved edges... Minor jaggedness in png though...

Yes it is saved a gif. I just tried saving it as a PNG but the background isn't transparent. I have uploaded an example of what I mean to http://home.exetel.com.au/nonamedesign/buddha/forums/template_for_forums.htm . It will only appear on the light gradient background but I added it to the red background so you can see the problem better.

When you export it you can set the 'matte' colour in the optimize panel, choose a colour close to what it will be sat on top of, that might help it look better

Internet Explorer has trouble with the transparency in PNG-24 images, which sucks. That's really the only way you can do it at the moment, cos GIF's don't use a large enough palette to be able to create smooth edges

a runaround is to look at the background of the area where this image with transparent features will be put. Use the background color on the edge of the image and it will blend with the BG giving you a smoother edge...
