I am developing a new PHP/MySQL based forum. I am hoping to make it extremely easy to customize, accessable for people with disabilities and expandable so that it can run not only forums, but whole sites.

I am hoping to release a commercial and freeware version.

Do you believe there is enough need for this?

I am not relying on it to provide a stable income and I am mainly creating it to see if I can, but I just wanted your opinions on this.

I'd be interested in a standards-based forum software package. As for the need? I don't know.

I do know that a lot of software is horrific in its generated code.

My site is currently XHTML Strict and CSS compliant. I am using CSS for the design so no Sticking out tongue

Well, I've used one, but it's for a perfectly acceptable part - the calander.

Other people have also expressed their feelings that they would really like to have a standards compliant BB.

Well, I'm off to code it Sticking out tongue

I'm doing the same, and mostly for the same reasons Wink I don't believe there is a need though, there are tons (163) of them out there.

I've been pretty busy working on the main design. Nearly done now Laughing out loud

I've been having great fun seeing how I can change the look of the site using the CSS alone. I can create new sites in 10 mins. It's really fun Laughing out loud

Thats a very clean and easy forum - i'd use it.
But as mentioned - you have a lot of competition.

It is clean, but you will definitely have a lot of competition -- especially free BBSs

I don't know...I don't think that I would want a forum to be "tableless" so to speak. Especially as the information lends itself to a table forum. On the other hand, your design looks very nice...and if the code is clean & standards compliant I might give it a shot.

Cheers,

Well, the design is tableless. But tables are meant to be used to organise information so obviously I'll use them for that. But there will be NO nested tables.
