Ten Deadly Sins of Web Design?
I just read this on someone's blog today, but I won't link to it since I'd like us all to post our own thoughts. What would you say are the 10 Deadly Sins of Web Design?

I like my sound on, I really would not like it off all the time. You can mute it in windows. Maybe sombody will make a smart browser, that just turns off elevator music.

It's called Opera It only turns off embedded sound in web pages, so it's not as if it disables your sound altogether.

You woofters have only posted one each?! Whereas I'm just glad it's limited to ten!
*ahem* For the Brits on the boards, just imagine the Bullseye music starting now...
Iiiinnnnn 1: You too can annoy millions of people by blocking every browser other than IE.
Iiiinnnnn 2: It's breaking the back button!
Iiiinnnnn 3: Photoshop users most common mistake, it's entire websites built of images!
Iiiinnnnn 4: And pigs might fly (across your web page) it's Javascript, for no reason.
Iiiinnnnn 5: It's my head, or is it the home link? Mystery meat navigation.
Iiiinnnnn 6: You can't see for toffee with this, it's font sizes that can't be changed by the user! Especially if they're done in points!
Iiiinnnnn 7: It's opening new windows, the choice that belongs to the user!
Iiiinnnnn 8: You won't know what you're buying when you visit one of these, it's a vague website that doesn't tell you anything but warbles a lot*.
Iiiinnnnn 9: It's a wheel, let's re-invent it! People that try to make their website unique by breaking every convention possible.
Iiiinnnnn 10: You'll be able to make your web site look as boring as your OS by using these ghastly buttons!
And Bullys Special Priiiiize! Now you can leverage a clicks and mortar approach to e-commerce marketing paradigms with this: Pile of middle-management bullsh*t ... Ummmm, in a speedboat (any Bully fans will know that the prize was always a speedboat).
Oh, there are so many I could list!! Must leave some for others though.
And while we're on the subject, The Vatican have commited deadly sin number 3. Whoever designed that: "You win nothing but your BFH... Bus Fare Home"
--------
*For instance: "This product will output 200 million market-centric automatically generated e-mails in four seconds!" ... "e-mails of what?" I think to myself, but the site just hasn't got that information.

I don't like how your source puts down Flash, demonhale. Here's a perfect example of good Flash use:

Well, it actually took me so long to construct that post - I spent a while searching for the Bullseye theme tune, but couldn't find it, also some clips of Jim Davidson saying: "Super, smashing, great" would be, well, just that! - your post didn't exist when I started, Tariffcalc!
ROFL!
Well as I said, I had to leave some for other people to use.

Basically I made all the top ten mistakes (maybe more) on my old websites...
for me here are the nominations:
1. Page Music peircing the ears with no stop button in place...
2. tiled BG images of stars, planets, blinking shaking things...
3. marquee texts all over the page (makes me puke)...
4. Sites created in Flash with no HTML versions...
5. Images that load forever, no optimization...
6. dark text on dark background, light text on light background
7. Forms that take time to fill
8. No form of standard compliance, 100 no biggie errors are acceptable( at least try and validate)
9. Headers and Menus in Flash...
10. any kind of blinking element...
and heres a reading material of what they think are the 10 mistakes...

Ten Deadly Sins of Web Design
Using proper English and grammer - how dare you not include us folk that dont read and write well
Using big words - Can't even say it let alone pronounce it, and you expect me to know what it means
Using small sentences - some of us like to hold our breaths when we read a sentence and going line after line until you turn blue is kinda cool.
Using iframes, frames or CSS overflow - How dare you take my mouse wheel away from me, that's my excercise.
Using 'back to top' or 'top' links on long pages - Like I said thats my excercise
Using normal or big font size - How dare you not make me stare at the fine print making me move closer to the screen so my nose glows from radiation.
Using "click here" links - News flash, touching the link with my finger wont work, so have no choice but to click there (yeah keyboard short cuts -- arggh shut up)
Using or rather not using things that require plugins - How dare you not fill my hard drive up with useless junk that will be outdated before my next subscription of AV monthly comes up
Making me not use the latest browser - How dare you not make me fill my hard drive (didn't I just say this)
Using a list of ten items without bullets or similar - I have no idea how many I've done so how dare you make me count them.
[small print] ... .... ... .. .... ........ .. .... .. ....... ... .... ... ........ . .... .. . ....... ... ..
[bigger small print] This post was made in jest, if anyone has a problem with it please read the small print very carefully, twice infact before making any statements that may cause you to look like santa in a pair of speedo's at Easter

Its their opinion of flash maxwell but I do agree there are some great uses for flash, like in making presentational movies on site, tutorials, instructional videos and flash games...
There are a bunch of great looking flash sites out there, but without the option of an html version hinders them from being visited by those without the flash plugins as well as being indexed by search engines... If you must design a site in flash, then do so, but dont forget to add at least an html version of your site...

you need to not ever use freewebs for anything (never use it never)
and your addwords need to look exactly like your page to get clicked on
and dont use so many effects

In defense of photographers websites. Most of us tend to use less image compression than most, because we want our images to look their relative best.
But its not the best idea on your general webpage. One general gripe about many photographic sites, ------ Is the use of terrible loud elevator type background music. IT SUCKS!.

Exactly. I wouldn't have listed a lot of these things just because I don't see them. I'll come up with a list of 10 when I have more time to think about it

Not using website creation software (this includes a text editor). I break out in a sweat when ever I see a webpage that appears to have been created by MS Word.
Just to edit a webpage like that is a nightmare.
I can think of another that is more on the code side than what every one else sees. Frequently code is not documented for future webmasters. I'm guilty of this one and really should go and fix it.
