Can you give an example of a site that you got a template from so we can see what format it is in.

I know some templates have text on the header graphics. Is that the sort of thing you're talking about? Like where this site says "the Webmaster FORUMS" you would have to use a graphics editing program to change that text.
Is that the type of thing you're talking about?
(Sorry for the unintentional bad pun. )

It sounds like what you got is a psd layout that needs to be sliced, and either exported as html or assembled by hand. These kind of templates are nothing but either an image you slice or an image that is already sliced with layers intact, so that you can change things. For any actual text content, you'll need to add that by hand in either a text editor, or an html editor.

Why not pay $60 at monster templates for a premium template that looks good. Or you can use someone like my company for example to get custom templates designed. Either way its better than using a crappy free template

Hi,
You'll need adobe photoshop for most of the graphic changes.
Maybe you could check designgalaxy.net or designload.net. Stop by, we might be able to give you some "forum" discount.

This response only applies if downloaded the entire file for the site and not just the .html doc. Once you download the template FILE, explore the file and look at the graphics file extensions. Of course some will be .gif .jpg etc... However you are looking for either a .psd file then you can modify the logo / graphic in adobe photoshop. If the extension is .ai then you need to use Abobe illustrator to modify the image, .cdr is corel, etc.. etc...

Yeah, the text you can't edit is made in a graphic design program - basically it's a .gif or .jpg and you can't just edit a raster image - even in a graphic design program you won't be able to just 'edit' them unless you have the source file (.psd, .ai, etc.) Most template sites give you those source files though.
