Starting a web design business - I have a few questions about starting up a business
I am starting a web design business and have a few questions about the business part. First of all I live in the U.S. I was wondering if I need a business license since I am working out of my home.
Secondly I was wondering what the best way to come up with a name. I am stumped trying to think up a business name. Thanks very much,

Hi Logan,
I looked at your profile and it said Washington, if you mean the state then yes you do need a business liscence. Good luck with the name I struggled forever to find mine

The application fee is $15, but the license is $250, are you sure about that $25?

the $25 was a high estimate. From what I've found it's
a one time $15 registration fee, $5 trade name fee for the state of WA

if you live in a city there is a city license -- $40 for Bellingham but I live outside of the city limits so that wont apply to me, I can't imagine it being that much higher in another city but I could be wrong.
I'm curious where you got that number for $250? I know several business owners who all told me that small number (high $25 estimate) was all that was necessary to obtain a state business license.
There are some special fees for things like selling cigarettes, etc... but web designer doesn't fall under any of those special fee categories.
take care,

The $15 was for the state fee but I live in Vancouver and I think it is $250 becuase it is a home based business.

I also had a very hard time finding inspiration for my "Web Currents" company name. My advise would be to look through old magasines etc. I for one found the currents idea in an atlas

I have a home based business as well, in CO. And I paid maybe $20 for everything. To become an LLC I paid about $500 - but that's something different. Check with your accountant. They will know everything that you need!
