Hi Peeps.
Im new to the forum and would just like to say hi to everyone. I have been interested in web design for nearly a year now.
Please could you give your honest opinion on which layout i should use for my new site. The site is for my web based PC Overclocking, Watercooling, PC Hardware Reviews, Downloads etc business. See what you think.
Here are the links]
http://www.mbmicro.co.uk <-- Refer to it as "The blue one"
http://www.mbmicro.co.uk/orange/index.html <- Refer to this one as "The orange one"
So please, if you could just tell me which has the best layout, colours etc. It would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
Regards
Mark (UK)

Hmmm... both are good. I think the blue one is a little bit easier on the eyes though - just because the text is more clear (I don't like the way you have put text over that patterened bar thing on the orange one - hard to read).
What I would like to seee is the blue one done in another colour - maybe that would look good in orange instead of blue.
Another thing I notice on both of them is that the logos seem really cramped. The text is rather hard to read IMO - try making the main font bigger and in the case of the "blue" logo, try a different font for the "Mega Hardware-Micro Prices" text. Choose something that was designed to be used at small sizes. I would also like to see the navigation areas emphasized a little more.

Thanks for the comments on my site.
So which font do you recommend i use for the logo? arial? and do you think i should use verdana 2 size (The common size) for the content area.
Also you said about the nav area, how do you suggest make this stand out more. Im using the latest Photoshop. I do have a orange version of this template luckily. If you would like to see the originals of these templates where i got them from which might help you in giving me an idea, please follow this link to take you to 4templates

I appreciate your help. Very grateful.
I would like someone to help me design a professional logo. I have the original file that the logo must go onto which is just the slice of the top left of the template.
Regards
Mark

I think the main logo font is fine - it's just that bit underneath it that is hard to read. Try verdana for that, it might work. Otherwise I think the logo is fine. Just make it bigger and try to reduce the size of your bevel and drop shadow on it which will make the text clearer and easier to read.
To place more emphasis on the navigation area, you could just make the text bolder for the left side text navigation. The top one might take a little more work. I would probably change the background gradient to integrate some blue (or orange, or whichever colour you pick). Make the text black isntead of grey for starters. YOu could also change that graident in the back to blue/light blue or orange/white (may require white text depending on how you do the gradient).

I like them both, the blue one better...
I was kind of expecting something out of the navbar... a mouseover or something... but it looks fine the way it is

Here we go chaps n chapettes.
Your wish is my command. I have created the roll-overs, darkened left links, changed the font and COLOUR (not color) of the body text to Verdana 12px.
So hope you think its an improvement. Please be honest.
Thanks
Mark

Looks good but a few things could be changed IMO,
the mouseovers, if its the "home, about us, return ..." dont work until after you have clicked the link, maybe preload the images - not a biggy
The top section is to deep, maybe take one of the sections out, the grey stripes at the very top could always go at the bottom.
the links to the left are too unlike links, maybe use underline on mouseover (a:hover).
Looks great
mices or mouses?

The mouse overs do work before you click on them. The reason why after you have clicked on them they remain in the "Lit" or blue is because i have design them that way as an indication of what page you are on. If you roll the mouse across the links at the top nav bar you will see they will light up as the mouse moves over.
Thanks for the opinion

I like the changes
I'd suggest preloading them... it takes a few seconds on a mouseover...
As busy said, change the a:hover to underline it or a deeper color
Good work!

I don't know how I missed this one before so I didn't get to see the orange but the blue is very nice. I would make the logo slightly bigger so that it (not the surrounding box) is taller and fills that space more. You also definitely need to preload your rollover images as they are slow to work. I would also make your left hand links a darker (or maybe different colour) on hover but I don't think they need to be underlined.
Nice work

Hi.
Thanks again for the reviews.
Busy, what do you mean by horizontal scroll? do you mean the body test is too wide? it should be perfect in 800x600 and still fine with 1024x768 just leaving white space to the right.
Also i am not sure how to make the images pre-load in the viewers browser. Could anyone give me the code please and would it have to be applied to every image seperately or one code for all the images in the tags?
YOu will see that the left-links do have a rollover colour. It is however, fairly un-noticable so any suggestions on what to do with the left-links will be appreciated but i have just got rid of the underline for hover. I didnt like it. So i am going to stick with the colour change on hover instead.
Thanks again peeps

To preload the over state of the buttons you will need to add the following code:
to the head section add -<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
</script>
to the body tag add - onload="MM_preloadImages('image1.gif','image2.gif','image3.gif')" listing all the images you want to preload.
For the left side links I would add maybe an orange or red colour???

Could someone please tell me if i have fixed the delays on the roll-overs. I havent made them pre-loaded but have now included the animation.js file which may have been the problem as i missed it out of the upload for this review.
I have also added a bold to the hover on the left links to make the roll-over effect stand out a bit more than it was (fairly un-noticed)
Let me know what you think
Thanks
Mark

The left links are better now but the top links are still slow rolling over first time round, you really need to add the preload.

yes yes yes yes yes......hehhehe
Ive duuun it. The CSS on the left links is now working.
What i have done is just moved to an external style sheet instead of implimenting it into every individual page. Hows it looking peeps. Are the left links black to you as well?
All i have to do now is preload the mouse-overs and im ready to finish off the site with addding content etc.
Thanks for the great help peeps.

Hello again.
Could i also ask people to look at my code of the site and tell me if the code between the head tags is ok being lowercase and if i could also ask you to please give me your opinion of my code. Should i have the code in the head tags on seperate lines for each individual meta tag or on the same line/s (in other words use more width of the page on the html)
Your opinion on the code and site layout are always welcome. Its good to hear comments good and bad.
Thanks
Mark

here is teh link so people dont have to go back for it http://www.mbmicro.co.uk/new-blue/index.html
the page itself looks good. a lil slow to load on 56k
Its always easier to place your coding per line (as you have it, one meta tag per line) as editing next time is easier, or if someone else has to edit it they dont have to untangle it all first.
the code in the head tag looks ok, but if you want to make it proper change the
