Protection

I am about ready to launch my web site with graphic images I created from scratch, using a paint program, and I would like as many suggestions as possible on how to protect my files. I first will take actions with copyrights, second I would like to use some Java Script to prevent individuals from copying the picture at all, and third I would like to encrypt my files. My problem is I don't have the necessary Java Script—I have only heard of this method from other users. I have spent tons of money on web design software, graphics software, and compression software, so I would like to find some relatively inexpensive encryption software that is easy to learn. Anyone who can help would have my utmost gratitude.

Really, you cannot find a full-proof way of protecting your graphics. There will be people--if they want the graphics--that will take them using a screenshot. The best thing to do would just be add copyright information on all of them [in Photoshop you'd make the Opacity % for those Text blocks 2%.]

You could also use a filter such as digimark in photoshop if you really need to protect your images.

http://www.psyral.com sells the techniques for image protection (which uses applets) ... and I'm sure that's an address I got from a Brian Farkas post. So either it's no good or Brian's memory is fallible:)

http://moyra.com/jewels/eleventh.html this site will not let you right click it's pages at all. Any ideas on how they do this?

Andy- you sure you got that from one of my posts? I don't remember posting that... Maybe I'm losing it! Smiling

CNich84552- They are probably using a javascript to protect your page from right clicking.. However the View > Source still works, so that isn't really too useful if the person trying to get your images knows what they're doing.

The psyral site, however does sound like a good idea:

So if I did post that, it looks like I know what I'm doing (or knew, anyway) Wink

Take a look at http://continue.to/hope - that does explain 'it all', and you can acquire the legendary no right click script there are well as see how to avoid the view>>source option on the toolbar.

But as everyone keeps saying .. you can't stop 'em

PS to Brian: well I'm just about certain it was from one of your posts (months back)

When looking to http://www.psyral.com/ which of the following applications are you sugesting?
Applications:
psyral phobia
xcition
ikeep
scryptkeeper
emailkeeper
linkkeeper
hypergate
html code protection

I’m thinking html code protection, but what will this do to protect my files? Will the encryption prevent my items from being stolen? Also, please have a look at http://www.imagelock.com/ it seems like it is a good buy, but I would like a few more opinions from other webmasters before I am completely sold.

Guess that psyral.com link is a bit stale. When I found it first, they did have an applet option (can't right click those usefully) that displayed images and thus 'protected' them - except from a straightforward 'print screen' to clipboard. Maybe the applet was unstable, unsaleable, who knows????

The imagelock site (cursory cruise) seems to a method for providing you with all the information you need to enforce your copyright/intellectual property rights - but not how to actually stop it happening. You'll need some good lawyerly stuff to make the most of imagelock, I think.

http://copyright.cyber-crew.com/ has some useful stuff about web law/rights/etc. but the bottom line is that there isn't a preventive method .. just reaction and legal fees.

The link you should be looking for is Ikeep, I think, as that does display the image in an applet:
